Chapter 32
It looked just like a winged angel. I couldn’t even blink for fear it would disappear if I opened my eyes.
“When I first saw you, I really thought I was going to lose my breath.”
He gently stroked the ultrasound picture with his thick thumb as if petting it affectionately.
“How could something like this come to someone like me?”
Smack. Then he kissed it repeatedly and pressed his lips against it. To others, it would look like a father in love with his child.
With those lips that kissed the baby, he casually cursed others, and with those hands that gently touched the child, he choked the breath out of others.
“I’m so happy that I’m scared I might get punished.”
I quietly looked down at his temple. Perhaps it was instinctively seeking a way to survive, but Kang Yeol-jin had always had a keen sense.
“Are you scared you might get punished? Yeah, you’re looking right into your future.
You bring hell to others, yet you say you’ll raise your son lovingly and without lack. That just doesn’t make sense. For every body you’ve used as a stepping stone, shouldn’t you also be punished?
“Can you see our little squishy head here?”
I called out to Kang Yeol-jin, who was lost in his actions, as he kissed the round head of the fetus again.
“But, Kang Yeol-jin.”
His head slowly turned towards me. I could see my face reflected in his eyes under his forehead, which was pushed back.
“What happened to that stalker you mentioned?”
Startled, Kang Yeol-jin flinched.
“I almost lost the baby because of the stalker.”
He twitched, and his thigh stiffened.
“He’s not a first-time offender; he’ll be sent to the prosecution now. That’s
what he deserves. How could he do something like that to himself….”
“No. You’re the one who did that. I was hit by you. I tried to run into your car and just die.”
There were chaotic voices digging into my mind, but I desperately turned a blind eye. I still had to pretend I didn’t know anything.
“I see.”
I responded nonchalantly. Then I slowly looked around. Behind the mansion was such a nice swimming pool.
“I didn’t know there was a place like this at home.”
I had lived in this house, always suppressed by my father’s presence, not realizing how nice it was. As I said that, I worried that it might sound too much like I was reading from a textbook.
I added a bit more in a soft voice, almost a murmur.
“It’s so nice. I really think it was good to be alive.”
At that, all of Kang Yeol-jin’s movements abruptly stopped. Slowly, the hand holding the ultrasound picture lowered.
Dark clouds passed by, and the sunlight streaming through the large windows illuminated Kang Yeol-jin’s face.
In those eyes, what swirled was nothing but joy. Soon, he spoke up.
“Should I give you this house?”
I asked back softly,
“The house?”
“This is originally your house.”
When I didn’t respond, Kang Yeol-jin seemed eager to explain something to me.
“You said you didn’t want anything to do with the doctor, so I kept it.”
Did I say that? It was a valid reason. But could you answer why, of all cars, I ended up throwing myself into yours? I wanted to ask that question right away, but I bit my lip instead. Then I asked,
“How did my father die?”
It was about my father’s death.
I had tried to find out as much as I could about his death through searches.
However, aside from reports stating that he had died at home, I couldn’t find any articles with detailed information anywhere.
I couldn’t find anything. There was no news about my half-siblings or my stepmother’s whereabouts.
The death of my father, who was a doctor, felt as if it had been completely erased by someone’s hand.
Kang Yeol-jin pressed his lips tightly together. Soon, he buried his nose deeply in his large palm. He looked distressed, as if he couldn’t handle it. I waited for his torment. Slowly, I wanted him to fully succumb to the pain.
“Hey, you’re carrying a baby right now, and it’s not good for you to be mentally overwhelmed by shock…”
I reached my arm toward his neck. I whispered into his ear, which was damp from the moisture.
“Tell me.”
