Chapter 37
It feels like someone has cut away two years of memories from me. Otherwise, how could I not remember anything like this?
‘There may be psychological factors at play. The unconscious is blocking the recall of memories.’
The doctor said not to force myself to remember. It could actually have the opposite effect.
‘Is that so?’
‘Since you are pregnant, you absolutely need to rest.’
But, teacher, I have things I need to do right now.
My memories, which are like a gaping hole, have been completely emptied.
Those memories that were scooped out like with a backhoe, where could they be submerged now?
Struggling to regain my memories, I was like a starving rat. I scavenged the scattered clues like crumbs.”
First, I was hit by Kang Yeol-jin’s car.
Second, my father died. They said he was electrocuted while listening to the radio.
Third, soon my father’s house, car, and even his inheritance will belong to Kang Yeol-jin.
The sharp edges of the clues I’ve found all point in one direction: Kang Yeol-jin. My father’s dog.
One day, that son of a b***h will pierce my throat with its fangs.
“How much do you think that son of a bxtch will hurt you?”
A loud, fierce exhaust sound echoed. I relaxed my neck, leaning my forehead against his thick shoulder that protruded far from the driver’s seat. Right now, I was on my way to school, riding in Kang Yeol-jin’s car.
He smelled strongly of perfume. A mix of fresh water and seductive, sensual lemon scent filled the air.
“Do you see that?”
With one large hand steering the leather-wrapped wheel, he whispered in my ear.
‘Do you feel them staring at you?’
I looked out with indifferent eyes at the people beyond the heavily tinted windows. Glancing, passing people were stealing glances at us.
‘I want to poke out the eyes of those little bastards who are trying to lick you.’
“…It’s because the car stands out.”
I tried to push away from his chest, but Kang Yeol-jin, grinning and chuckling, pulled me back again.
Being held in his warm embrace, I felt my sensitive ears rubbing against his thick neck. I shut my eyes tightly against that strange sensation.
“Inside, they’re all probably thinking about what they want to do to you.”
I know because I’m the same kind of Alpha pup; even if they pretend to be noble, their heads are filled with nothing but filthy rags like chewing gum.
“That’s why I’ve hated having flies buzzing around me more than anything.”
What a ridiculous thing to say. What you did was nothing more than cheap control. Coming from the back alleys, you don’t really understand what’s right or wrong. Then again, I’m no different.
So, I crushed everyone I saw under my feet, where they dared to lay their filthy eyes. On our young master.
Kang Yeol-jin tapped my cheek with his finger while laughing, and I slowly smiled back at him. But when I turned my head forward again, all traces of a smile had vanished from my face, leaving only a serious expression.
“Yes, your law is the survival of the fittest, and your justice is a fistfight.”
“I hope one day you find yourself caught up in that rotten sense of justice.”
Finally, the car came to a stop in front of the school. Kang Yeol-jin got out of the driver’s seat and walked around the loud headlights stuck to the front bumper, coming toward me.
His large hand reached out. As if I had been waiting for it, I grabbed his hand and stepped out. As soon as my feet touched the ground safely, his big hand cupped my cheek.
“Hee-jae.”
He kissed the nape of my neck once more. A wet, slurping sound followed. I straightened my back.
The gazes of people more than ten steps away suddenly fixed on us.
‘Could you please just give up quickly for my sake?’
As our eyes met over your broad shoulder, I quickly lowered my gaze. I must keep my mind filled with the thought that I should never make eye contact with this beast in front of me.
“Just thinking about you catching the attention of other guys is driving me crazy.”
Kang Yeol-jin, you need to understand.
