‘Even time alone with her feels too short, so why should Beatrice have to meet those punks?’

One day, inevitably, someone would push him into it, forcing him to go through with it like swallowing bitter medicine. But he had no desire to hasten that moment. No matter how much Dillon whined, Caesar didn’t think his mind would change easily.

Of course, he was aware that he was being overprotective, wrapping his wife up far too tightly. But he couldn’t help it.

If someone born into this world and having lived their entire life in utter poverty suddenly gained a treasure they wouldn’t trade even their life for, whoever they were, they’d naturally be desperate to hide it away so it wouldn’t be taken from them.

He could never tell Beatrice, but in truth, this visit to the capital was not a welcome event for Caesar. However, for her sake—and his own—the trip to the capital and attending the New Year’s celebration was unavoidable.

“Ah, Commander!”

“What the hell does my married life have to do with you? Stay out of it.”

He barked at Dillon, who still hadn’t given up, but his subordinate was unusually persistent today.

“Of course I’m curious! A man who lived like a monk his whole life got married! And not just to anyone—you married Beatrice Estern, the best bride in the Empire! It was the wedding of the century! And you’re telling me I, your deputy, know nothing about it? Do you know how frustrating it is when people ask, ‘How’s the Margrave doing?’ and all I can say is, ‘Oh, uh, I guess he’s doing fine’? That’s the only boring answer I can give! And besides, Commander! Honestly, I had a hand in your marriage! I picked out the flowers, gave you advice, cheered you on—didn’t I?”

Silence was the only cure for madness. Caesar silently checked the saddle that the stableboy had secured. Meanwhile, Dillon was practically throwing a tantrum, as if he’d lie down and kick his feet like a child.

“You really won’t tell me? Your thoughts on getting married! Are you happy? Does the Madam have any complaints about life in the estate? After getting married, does the world suddenly look different to you? Come on, give me something, Commander!”

“Ha… And why exactly should I indulge your ridiculous curiosity?”

“Oh, come on! After all we’ve been through, you can’t even tell me something like this? I’m really starting to feel hurt here!”

Should I just kill him…?

Tired of the never-ending back-and-forth, Caesar nearly made a fatal misjudgment—but fortunately, he held it together.

If killing that bastard meant being thrown in prison and never seeing Beatrice again, his briefly vanished patience came rushing back.

“Then just one. Just answer this one thing! A single line—your thoughts on suddenly gaining a rabbit-like wife after living as a lonely wolf! Just answer that, and I won’t say another word today!”

Getting caught up in Dillon’s ploy was not a pleasant feeling, but the promise to stop talking was an appealing offer. In the end, Caesar reluctantly tried to recall his feelings on marriage.

His thoughts on gaining a wife.

How could that be summed up in a single sentence? His marriage to Beatrice was nothing short of a miracle. Truthfully, he was constantly plagued by the fear that this reality might be a dream, and that when he woke up, he’d find himself back in the muddy past.

“…Let’s see.”

That he had a wife. And that it was Beatrice Estern. It made him unbelievably happy, but as with all things bright, there was always an equally dark shadow.

Caesar let out a deep sigh and chose his words. One of the many feelings he had about being married to Beatrice was how much he loathed other people’s excessive curiosity about her.

“Honestly. So annoying.”

This was the honest feeling that no one had dared to ask about until now, and so he had never had the chance to say it out loud.

“…Huh? Annoying? Are you saying I’m annoying?”

Dillon looked stunned by the unexpected answer. Of course, he was incredibly annoying—but that wasn’t exactly what Caesar had meant.

“I mean that I never realized marriage—and having a wife—would be such a bothersome thing.”

Having said that much, Caesar paused. He sensed someone’s presence. But the faint sound of retreating footsteps soon faded, and he assumed it was just a maid or servant passing by.

“So what you mean is… because you’re always thinking about the Madam, and there are so many eyes watching, it’s driving you crazy and you feel like you can’t take it anymore—something like that, right?”

And maybe this punk’s time spent walking on eggshells around him hadn’t been for nothing. Dillon caught on right away.

This episode made me certain that this guy was an idiot who couldn't even form sentences. Were you raised by wolves? What's the reason for such a lack of speech?I'm sure you came to this position by accident. Otherwise, it would be impossible for you to achieve anything in politics with your communication skills. Your wife is truly a blessing. Otherwise, you would have remained an idiot for the rest of your life.
