He wore a slightly bewildered look, though in a somewhat different way than before. Whenever she expressed her affection, Caesar often ended up looking awkward like this. If I had to interpret it, I’d say it was the look of someone who still couldn’t fully believe that she loved him.

The realization stung him, and at the same time his heart ached—he couldn’t even begin to imagine what it must be like to have lived a life so dry he couldn’t trust another’s love.

“Surely you don’t not believe me?”

When she teased him playfully about his reaction, Caesar smiled in embarrassment.

“In truth… there are still times when I wonder why you love me.”

“Hm, well, first of all, I like your body. And your face is handsome, too.”

Her tone was still mischievous, but he was relieved she at least liked those outward things about him.

Yet Beatrice’s words did not end there.

“But after talking with you, I felt my heart drawn to you even more. You don’t speak much and can be quite blunt, but at least you’re not a man who’s blind to my background. Hmm—so what was it about me that made you suddenly decide you must court me?”

Startled by his wife’s sudden questioning, Caesar rubbed his nape awkwardly. But he also wanted to answer her carefully, so he chose his words with care.

“The first time… I felt there was warmth even in someone’s words. When you spoke words of welcome to me.”

After a moment, as Caesar spoke, Beatrice listened quietly.

“It felt like, in a life from which even the gods had turned away, I had finally found someone on my side. So I tried, foolishly, not to overstep…”

For some reason, as her husband’s confidence seemed about to falter again, Beatrice pressed a firm kiss onto his lips to silence him.

Caesar followed her lips like a honey-seeking bee, but Beatrice smiled and shook her head.

“I hope we’ll have many more moments like this, where we speak honestly. It’s been far more enjoyable than I ever imagined.”

Thinking the conversation was winding down, Caesar—still pressing his lips to hers—gave a distracted nod and trailed kisses along her mouth. Playful and enjoying the power to tease her, Beatrice pulled away and said,

“You still haven’t answered me, Honey.”

Fixated solely on Beatrice’s lips, Caesar replied as though under her command.

“I will do so, Beatrice.”

A mischievous gleam flickered across her face.

“But you’re already not being honest.”

“What… agh.”

As she lifted her knee and pressed against him even through his clothes, Caesar groaned and arched his hips.

“You promised. Whether it was saying ‘I love you’, an embrace, or a kiss— from now on, you will speak or act honestly in the moment, without hesitation.”

Not long ago, Caesar had confessed that during their time at the estate he hadn’t even dared ask to hold her hand first for fear of burdening her, and Beatrice had prescribed this remedy.

As a result, Caesar had become a fool who would plead for her hand, for an embrace, for a kiss at any moment—but it was all right. Beatrice never found him bothersome, and in the end he was happier for it.

Yet now, with his wife slyly rubbing against his g***n with her thigh, she looked more wicked than ever. And the problem was that even that wickedness drove Caesar to dizzying excitement.

“One last thing. Something I haven’t told you.”

The other dangerous reason Beatrice was provoking him was that, while she toyed with her husband, that innocent, guileless expression awakened a latent streak of sadism in him.

“What is it?”

Distracted by arousing him, Beatrice suddenly lifted her head—and at that moment Caesar’s dark desire, which had been surging within him, overflowed its limits. It was the desire that, even as he obeyed his wife’s words, eagerly sought any opportunity to devour her.

“Actually, I found a couple of peculiar books in the bedroom you used the other day. I was afraid it would embarrass you, so I hadn’t mentioned it…”

Beatrice’s face stiffened for a moment, then flushed as if about to burst. Exactly as Caesar had hoped.

“Th-That’s…!”

“I didn’t realize my wife was studying our marital relations so diligently… as your husband, I’m ashamed. So I intend to work even harder from now on.”

“Caesar!”

“I noticed some pages were creased, as if they had been read many times. It seemed to depict intercourse outdoors…”

“I never did that!”

“I think I can sate that curiosity tonight.”

Unlike their previous tender kisses, his lips, now driven by intention, covered Beatrice’s. The feeling of his probing tongue filling her mouth so hotly made her head spin already. Backing away under his hard body, her back suddenly found itself pressed tight against the wall.
