Chapter 69
It wasn’t that Ernst was underestimating her. Even the brightest person couldn’t know everything without exposure. Today’s political situation could only be understood by looking at the complex relationships among nobles.
For example, why did the nobles of the Imperial Faction still hesitate to join the Parliamentary Faction despite Heinz’s tyranny?
‘It’s not that they won’t turn away—they simply can’t.’
While the nobles of the Parliamentary Faction were prepared to overturn the status quo and abolish the class system, the Imperial Faction cannot betray their own roots.
If the monarchy symbolized by the emperor falls in the midst of this rebellion and growing influence of the rebels, the Imperial Faction would fall with it.
In other words, without an elder in the Imperial Family to guide a regency, they have no choice but to wait, at least until Crown Prince Schvachen reaches adulthood, even if it means enduring Heinz in the meantime.
That’s why even someone like Kainri, who loathes the emperor, cannot simply walk away—doing so would mean abandoning the rights held by Luina and their son Piurn as well.
He could throw away his own rights without hesitation, but he couldn’t abandon those bestowed on the ones he cherishes. Especially when it comes to Luina, who’s lived as a noble her whole life and cannot imagine any other way.
But Julie understands this whole structure? Understanding the internal conflicts and stakes among nobles is essential, yet Julie, who wasn’t raised as a noble, somehow grasps it? Being around nobles is one thing, but being raised as one is entirely different.
At that moment, Ernst came to a realization.
‘Julie is truly brilliant.’
Goodness, she figured all this out on her own without anyone explaining it to her. My woman really must be a genius.
He should’ve known from the moment she caught his eye. Unlike the other silly servants content with the scraps they’re given as the empire falls apart, she’d already been looking for a way to secure a stable life—that showed him her wit and wisdom. She’s shown it all along.
Of course, she has her occasional lapses, but that just adds to her charm, doesn’t it?
“Why… why are you looking at me like that?”
On top of that, she’s beautiful. Not the typical beauty like Luina’s that everyone is used to, but no less beautiful.
And her body? Absolutely perfect. It fits against his like it was meant to.
More than that, she’s kind, always so patient, no matter how often Lilian cries through the night.
And intelligent too, figuring out so much on her own without a hint! That kind of genius is rare.
‘How did I get so lucky to be with the perfect woman?’
Maybe he saved a country in his past life. How else could he be with someone like her?
And even after all these years, his feelings haven’t wavered. No, if anything, they keep growing stronger.
Unable to hold back, he reached out to pull Julie close, only for her to instinctively dodge, slowly shaking her head.
“W-What are you doing? Just say what you want to say.”
“Julie, put Lilian down for a moment.”
“But she needs to be fed.”
“Food, food! Food!”
Oh, is that so? Then he’d have to summon their ‘housekeeping fairy’. He should be back by now anyway.
With a snap of his fingers, Ernst heard footsteps approaching from outside.
Passing Lilian to him, Julie didn’t notice as he leaned in and kissed their little girl on the forehead, whispering,
“Daddy’s going to work hard on making a little sibling for you, okay? Go play with our house fairy for now.”
“Play! Play! Yay!”
As soon as Ernst set Lilian down by the doorway, she ran off excitedly toward the said house fairy. Sure enough, as soon as the door opened, a familiar hand appeared, scooping Lilian up and carrying her off, murmuring softly to her.
“Come along, Young Miss, time for your snack. And no, let’s take that cape out of your mouth. That’s right, now how about a nice stroll with me while your parents… take care of other business?”
Julie’s face turned bright red as she heard that. Embarrassed by the idea of ‘making a sibling’, she lightly slapped Ernst’s hand as it slid down to her waist, whispering.
“Stop it! Sir Dane will hear us!”
“Well, he has to know when to tuck her into bed, doesn’t he?”
What’s he supposed to do? Read our minds?
Lowering his head, Ernst pressed his lips to Julie’s, savoring the incredible sweetness of her kiss. It was like a potion, intoxicating and impossible to resist.
Is there a moment more perfect than this? Spending a day with the one he loves. Who cares if the world’s a mess—this is heaven right here.
As their breathing fell into sync, he smiled, holding her close, cherishing every second.
And so, another romantic day in Ernst’s life comes to an end.
Today, tomorrow, and the day after that—
Every day will be beautiful as long as he shares it with Julie.
