Chapter 42
Even if Giselle sat quietly inside the mansion and lived obediently as his fiancée, Raven would not be satisfied. She had made him tremble with anxiety, afraid she might escape from him again at any moment.
If his anxiety continued like that, he might reach the thought that he should store Giselle Vellasi away like a rare jewel somewhere no one else’s eyes could reach.
If he took her to a place only he knew and made it so she could not take a single step out of there, he would no longer have to fear when she might run away.
There was more than enough possibility that Raven would have such a thought.
A person who had never once had such a thought would not say that he would break her legs and lock her in the mansion basement.
And there was one more thing. At that time, there had been another clue attached to his words.
“But if you do something like yesterday even one more time, then I won’t forgive you with only this much.”
In other words, it meant that if Giselle did something like yesterday just one more time, he would use that as an excuse to confine her in his own mansion.
Once her thoughts reached that point, Giselle’s blue eyes flashed with faint delight.
For something she had thought of just now, it was a fairly plausible judgment.
Raven’s possessiveness had already reached its critical point. It was not as though he would keep being caught off guard and endure being hit forever. Perhaps this time, Raven might dig a trap to catch her and wait.
‘That would be thrilling.’
Giselle wore a faint smile around her lips. Below, she grew excited on its own and twitched.
Nothing was certain yet, and it was merely a guess, but just thinking of that possibility excited her.
Raven digging a trap and waiting in order to have her. Where in the world could there be anything more thrilling than that?
However, separate from her own wish or excitement, there was no guarantee that Raven would act according to her judgment.
‘First, there’s no way to break through the surveillance right now, so it would be best to take some time and observe Raven’s movements.’
During that time, she intended to also think about whether there was any way to break through his ironclad surveillance network.
Giselle stopped the hand that had been tapping the bathtub at a steady speed and lifted the body she had buried deep in the bathtub.
Giselle asked Venya, who had been quietly watching her from beside her.
“Come to think of it, what is His Highness doing now? It should have been quite some time since he arrived at the estate.”
“……”
Venya had always watched Raven’s movements and reported them to Giselle without fail, even while showing her displeasure. But this time, for some reason, her mouth closed firmly.
Giselle waited patiently for an answer to return. But even after quite some time passed since the silence settled, Venya’s firmly closed lips showed no sign of opening.
For an instant, a faint question appeared on Giselle’s face.
“I’m asking you, Venya. What is His Highness doing now?”
“……”
“Or can’t you say it because he’s m**********g while calling my name?”
It was a joke. But immediately, a sharp gaze flew at her from Venya. The rebuke that she should not make such vulgar teasing remarks about Raven, even as a joke, could be read in it as it was.
Contrary to the way she rebuked Giselle, Venya did not open her mouth until the end. She only watched her mood, looking extremely troubled.
Giselle suddenly sensed it. A situation completely different from before was unfolding in his dry northern land.
Filled with certainty, Giselle pressed Venya once more.
“Venya.”
“…Yes, Miss.”
“What is Grand Duke Barietsch doing now?”
“……”
Silence followed again. Giselle changed the question.
“I don’t know why you aren’t speaking. Do I perhaps have to risk my life like that day for you to open your mouth? Will you only be satisfied after seeing bloody tears fall from His Highness’s eyes?”
At the intense threat, Venya’s throat moved up and down. Then, as if frightened, her shoulders slowly curled inward, and her head dropped low.
“Venya.”
The fierce pressing attitude disappeared, and Giselle, who had instantly become gentle and affectionate, called her name.
“You decided to help me so that my love with His Highness could be realized. But if you keep your mouth shut like this, how can I be joined with His Highness?”
“……”
“So tell me, Venya. What is His Highness doing after returning to the mansion in Corvinus for my sake?”
Venya, who had been hesitating and faltering all along, finally opened her mouth.
“…I can’t answer.”
“Hm?”
Because her voice was too small and Giselle could not hear the words properly, she asked back. At that moment, Venya suddenly clenched both hands and poured out the feelings she had kept in her heart.
“I’m sorry, but I can’t tell you.”
