“…What are you trying to do? You surely can’t mean…”
“…”
“Ah!”
Log didn’t hesitate and plunged the needle into his neck.
Ignoring my shocked state, Log pulled out another syringe and without hesitation, injected that too.
After administering two doses, Log set the bag down.
And then…
“Ugh!”
Log covered his mouth. A nauseating feeling was rising.
Guiding medicine was infamous for its unpleasant sensation and are less effective than contact guiding through a Guide. Espers sometimes took sleeping pills at the same time because of it, or were administered the IV while already asleep.
No sane person would take such injections while awake. It’s unthinkable to receive not one, but two injections while fully conscious and be alright.
Eventually, Log 1 couldn’t hold back and began to vomit.
Watching someone vomit was never pleasant. But I couldn’t turn away just because it was messy.
His eyes were bloodshot, tears welling up, and his face was covered in blue veins.
This could have ended very badly.
I patted his back while he was vomiting. It wasn’t much help, but it was the least I could do morally as someone by his side.
How much had he thrown up?
I’m not sure how long it took, but it seemed like a while had passed. The music from the distant party had stopped long ago.
By the time the night had turned silent except for the sounds of insects and the chilling wind.
“Miss Rose, there’s a water bottle in the bag…”
“Ah!”
I quickly took out the water I had prepared in his bag and handed it to him.
After rinsing his mouth several times with water, he finally lifted his head, looking exhausted.

Log 1 seemed embarrassed, barely making eye contact with me. His ears were flushed red.
Seeing his embarrassment return, it was a relief to see that Log had safely gotten through this bout of rampage. But that didn’t mean he looked alright.

I quietly watched him, tears pooling in his downturned eyes…
“…Do you have a guiding allergy of some sort?”
I asked impulsively.
“…Pardon?”
“Log, I mean, do you also feel pain when you receive guiding from a Guide?”
I was somewhat unsure. As far as I knew, in the game titled ‘The Guide Who’s the Salvation of Arteon’, Claude was the only Esper who suffered from a guiding allergy.
But it could also be that it wasn’t mentioned in the game settings because it wasn’t important.
Despite experiencing pre-rampage symptoms and being fully conscious while taking guiding d***s, and even covering his entire body so as not to expose any skin, the need to avoid contact with a Guide seemed desperate.
The only explanation that made sense was a guiding allergy.

It felt awkward to talk right where he had vomited. So, we moved a little deeper into the bushes and sat side by side.
Perhaps finding comfort in someone who understood his symptoms, Log opened up about his situation.
“Until then, like other Espers, I received guiding normally. But… starting a month ago, even a slight touch from a Guide, instead of receiving guiding, made my skin feel as if it were burning.”

“I consulted the Center, but they couldn’t find the cause. To properly identify the cause, I inevitably had to make contact with Guides several times…”
“You must have developed trauma instead of getting guided.”
