Claude let out a disbelieving laugh.
I protested with a flushed face.

“If you’re worried about the bed making noise, we just won’t use the bed…”
“?”
He forced something into my mouth by prying my teeth apart with his fingers.
It was my clothes that he had thrown aside earlier.
“Just… endure it well.”
His voice, tinged with mirth, scattered in my ear.

“The temperature difference is significant. Don’t take off your coat.”
He sternly instructed as he buttoned my coat.
“Yes.”
I obediently replied. Although I was somewhat hot from all the layers he made me wear, it was still bearable.
The reason Claude was being so meticulous was that today, for the first time as his Guide, I was accompanying him on an official mission.
They had discovered a place suspected to be a mutant den and completed a preliminary search around it recently. Today, they were going to confirm it in earnest.
So, everyone had lined up outside the tents since morning. Behind Claude, three Guides stood, surrounded by Espers in a circular formation.
I had read about this in books and experienced it often in mock drills, so it wasn’t anything new.
Even so, Claude seemed unable to relax.
