Chapter 291
Claude wiped Rose’s wet hair and mouth, wrapped her body in several blankets, and still, he couldn’t put his mind at ease. He gave Livener repeated instructions.
“Make sure she is treated perfectly, no matter what. Ensure she gets this message.”
Livener felt a heavy sense of responsibility.
If there was one thing that could make his usually indifferent superior unusually sensitive, it was his Guide.
So, he didn’t need to guess how his superior felt, holding Claude’s Guide in his arms.
“I will take full responsibility and make sure Lady Rose recovers.”
Livener replied with determined resolve.
Even then, his superior didn’t seem entirely reassured.
Claude pressed his lips to Rose’s small cheek and whispered incessantly.
“Rose, please hang in there a little longer. We’ll find a doctor soon… You’ll feel better soon, just hold on until then…”
He looked more in pain than she did.
Livener found it strange yet heavy on his heart to see his superior so distressed over his Guide.
With all the residents having evacuated, it was uncertain how long they would have to search in the dead of night to find a doctor. He didn’t know how frail the body of a non-Esper woman could be, but the excessively small body in his arms felt burning hot.
If they couldn’t find a doctor in time and something happened to her…
Claude, with a stern face, asked once again.
“…Please.”
“I-I understand.”
Livener then ran around like he was flying, searching for a doctor. Despite the rain pouring down, there was no time to lose. He kept the person in his arms tightly wrapped to shield her from even a single raindrop as he ran through the night.
Was it luck? Fortunately, just as dawn was breaking, he managed to locate the house of a retired doctor.
After pounding on the heavily boarded-up door, a bearded old man, looking like he had just woken up, appeared.
“What on earth at this hour…?”
“I’ll pay you as much as you want. This is a very important person.”
Livener blurted out. The old man then noticed the small body trembling in Livener’s arms and raised an eyebrow.
“You must ensure she gets better, no matter what it takes.”

“It’s from the water.”
The doctor concluded succinctly.
“This is a common illness among travelers. Eight out of ten outsiders who visit this area come to me because of this. Their weakened bodies can’t handle the change in the water’s composition, causing them to fall ill.”
Livener found this diagnosis unfamiliar, as he had never experienced such illnesses himself.
“Then… will she get better?”
The doctor waved his hand dismissively.
“Oh, this isn’t a condition to make such a fuss about. With a few days of medication and rest, she’ll be back on her feet as if she was never ill. The fever was quite high, but she took the medicine in time.”
Only then did Livener let out a relieved sigh.
“…But who is she?”
The doctor, who had been cautiously watching Livener, finally asked.
“It’s rare for someone in such a small, remote village to be told to spare no expense to ensure recovery. Especially recently, with the mutants causing such trouble, I heard Espers have been dispatched from the capital… Ah, surely not…”
The man in front of him was obviously not ordinary. His towering frame and the high-quality fabric of his clothes, despite being dusty, were unmistakable.
However, Livener cut off the rural doctor’s curiosity sharply.
“Your role is to ensure she gets treated, no matter what.”
“…”
“I advise you not to concern yourself with anything beyond that.”
The doctor cleared his throat and changed the subject.
“By the way… will you be doing the nursing yourself?”
