Chapter 312
The reason the Espers were curious about me but didn’t touch me recklessly was simple. It was because I was designated for the ‘VIP’.
In other words, the VIP was the only one who could do whatever they wanted with me.
“VIP, we’ve brought the Guide you requested.”
The Esper standing at the door announced. There was no response from inside. Taking this as permission, he grabbed the doorknob.
“No, no, please… please don’t make me go in.”
I pleaded, knowing it was futile. The Esper looked down at me with a puzzled expression, as if thinking, ‘What nonsense is this?’
But the hesitation was brief, and the door opened with a heavy metallic sound.
The moment the inside of the room became visible, I involuntarily took a step back. The intense sunlight hit my eyes.
At first, I couldn’t see anything because of the light. Since being trapped in this building, I hadn’t even seen a small window.
This room had an entire wall made of a gigantic window.
It took a moment for my eyes, accustomed to the dim indirect lighting, to adjust to the sunlight.
Even though I couldn’t see properly, the force pulling my arm had no mercy.
Eventually, I was dragged a few more steps and then…
“Ah!”
I was kicked behind my knees, making me fall to the ground, kneeling. A huge shadow loomed over me as someone approached and stood in front of me.
At first, I couldn’t make out who it was. All I could see was the large silhouette of a man standing against the backlight of the window.
But as my eyes adjusted to the light, I slowly began to see who it was.
He had an incredibly large and e***t physique that belied his age, with a firm jaw, strong features, a silver beard, and piercing eyes…
“Why, why are you here…”
I muttered unconsciously.
I never expected to see Hermann Caulo, the Prime Minister of Arteon, in such a place.
For a moment, I even wondered if he had come to rescue me. Of course, that wasn’t the case.
The Esper who brought me here had clearly referred to him as the VIP.
As I looked around in confusion, my gaze was suddenly drawn to a picture frame hanging on a distant wall.
Two snakes coiling around a central staff.
I knew what that symbol meant.
I had memorized it countless times while preparing for the civil servant exam.
That was the logo of one of Arteon’s major government agencies.
It was the New D**g Development Research Institute under the Public Health Administration.
That was where I was now.
None of it made sense. Hundreds of Guides that the Center couldn’t find over the years had been kidnapped and imprisoned here, and the perpetrators weren’t just a few Espers Outside the Line but a large enough group to form a faction.
Their base… was actually a government facility, the New D**g Development Research Institute?
And the man standing before me was Hermann Caulo, the Prime Minister of Arteon?
Hermann, the head of the conservative faction that held power before the current president took office, was one of the strongest opponents of the Center’s establishment.
He had argued that the survival of the fittest was a law of nature, and that the abilities of Espers were a divinely granted right. His smooth words essentially meant that as long as they had power, Espers could exploit as many Guides as they wanted without any issue.
How had Hermann, once a staunch opponent of the Center, come to hold the position of Prime Minister under the current progressive administration?
Since when… and why…?
At that moment, the scattered pieces in my mind began to fit together.
