Chapter 333
[When does your shift end?]
Even with a full scholarship, I couldn’t avoid working part-time. I needed basic living expenses, and more than anything, now that I was an adult, my mom demanded that I contribute to the household expenses every month.
I replied to the text appropriately.
[11 o’clock.]
[Isn’t that too late?]
[It’s fine.]
I worked part-time at a franchise pizza place. It was a busy location, so it was a bit tough, but it wasn’t too bad. Since it was near school, the commute was efficient.
[Should I pick you up?]
Even so, when Sunbae sent a message like that, I hesitated for a moment.
〈Try not to look at your phone during work hours.〉
The boss, who looked like he was in his 50s, said this as he noticed me staring blankly at my phone.
〈Oh, yes. I’m sorry.〉
I quickly shoved my phone into my pocket and replied. But then, he suddenly asked,
〈…Is it your boyfriend?〉
〈Pardon?〉
〈The person you were just texting—is he your boyfriend?〉
I hesitated for a moment.
That sunbae had never once defined what our relationship was. So, it was natural for me to be confused about what we were to each other.
But we had kissed, and he had even offered to take me home.
After pondering for a while, I finally nodded. The boss then said to me,
〈…Kids these days. You send them to college to study, but all they think about is dating and having fun.〉
It was more of a disinterested mumble to himself than anything else.
After my shift ended, my sunbae came to pick me up. Even though I hadn’t asked him to.
He suggested we have a drink before he took me home. I was tired, but I couldn’t refuse him after he had waited for me in the cold outside the store.
We drank together, and before long, I ended up getting drunk.
〈Are you feeling really dizzy? Do you want to rest for a bit?〉
He asked, his arm around my waist, supporting me as I struggled to stand upright.
I glanced up at him, but I couldn’t quite make out his expression. His face blurred, multiplying from one to two, then from two to three.
Nodding vaguely, I let him lead me until he suddenly stopped. He let me lean on his shoulder for a moment, then pulled out his wallet and casually said,
〈Let’s get a room.〉
I was just… stunned.

The next day, I met up with some college friends. We weren’t that close, but somehow, we ended up hanging out together.
The conversation naturally shifted to talking about each of our boyfriends. In hindsight, I realize that the reason they approached me in the first place was because I had a boyfriend early in the semester.
〈Is that sunbae your first boyfriend?〉
They asked me. I said yes.
〈Oh… You must have studied really hard in school.〉
Unlike me, they said they had already experienced countless relationships before entering college.
〈So how does it feel to be in your first relationship?〉
They naturally asked this question.
After a moment’s thought, I answered.
〈Honestly… I’m not sure if I really like him.〉
That night, when I followed Sunbae into the motel room, I told him I didn’t want to do it.
He got irritated with me. He asked why I didn’t say anything earlier, complaining about how much the room cost and how I had wasted his money.
Maybe I shouldn’t have done that. I was just tired from drinking, and when he asked if I wanted to rest for a bit, I had simply nodded. But suddenly, I became the bad person who made him spend a lot of money and didn’t take responsibility.
