What follows a dragon in this escalating scale of rarity?
Silence fell over the room.
When I came to, all eyes were on me, filled with an intense longing that was almost palpable.
It reminded me of a documentary I once watched about the life of a d**g addict. The moment he finally found a small amount of the d**g after suffering from withdrawal, his eyes must have looked just like theirs.
A chill ran down my spine. I instinctively tensed up and became alert.
Even if I’d been officially registered as a Guide from the start, typically no more than twenty Espers would have been assigned to me for regular guiding sessions.
So, while 60% or 70% is already a high rate, only a few among those with over 80% will have the privilege of receiving guidance from me.
And the rest? Would they simply accept their fate and give up?
Unlikely.
They would surely try everything in their power to receive guidance from me.
This scenario is far from ideal for someone like me…

Suddenly, the inspector was lifted into the air, unable to continue his words.
“Who are they?”
Claude growled, having swiftly approached the inspector.

The inspector struggled in fear.

But the inspector, overwhelmed by fear, couldn’t properly respond.
Losing patience, Claude snatched the inspection report from his hand. A short scoff escaped him as he scanned the report.
Then, his sharp gaze turned to me.
And I thought to myself.
…Oh my god.
…I don’t know what it is, but I’m dead.
Sure enough, Claude began striding toward me, his presence so menacing it wiped my mind blank.
Of course! Claude was the strongest in this world, but he couldn’t possibly take on all the Espers here and still come out on top!
“Wait, just wait, Claude! Let’s talk this out, okay?” I pleaded.
“…”
“First, first of all, keep a reasonable safe distance…!”
But there was no reasoning with him, his eyes containing unbridled madness.
He reached me in an instant, grabbing the armrest of the chair I was on.
With a slight jerk, both the chair and I were lifted. I felt a jolt as I was spun and dropped back down…
“AHH…!”
Rattle.
Claude then leaned over, trapping me completely between him and the chair. He roughly grasped my chin, forcing me to face him as he held the inspection report before my eyes.
“Look for yourself, Rose Valentine.”
“Ee, eek…”
I could barely squeak in fear.
My eyes couldn’t miss the name at the very top of the list…

“I’ve won this time.”
He spoke through gritted teeth, his madness-filled eyes mere centimeters from mine.
Would bones make the same sound as his gritted teeth once he crushes them?
His grip, holding my chin, tightens. If he puts a little more force, my bones will crumble and turn into powder.
“Please… please spare me.”
That was all I could muster, trembling.
But my plea seemed to infuriate him further. A vein on Claude’s temple seemed to throb even more, and he even growled.
“What. Who said they’re going to kill you.”
…Did, did he never say that he’s going to kill me? Then what’s he going to do with me?
My frightened brain had short-circuited long ago, its cogs merely groaning and creaking now.
Suddenly, I was lifted into the air. Before I knew it, I was thrown over Claude’s shoulder like a sack.
“I, I’m scared, it’s too high…!”
“Shut it.”
His curt response reminded me. Right, he didn’t say he’d kill me.
But he did say he’d cut off my limbs and lock me away!
My mind went blank with fear.
