Chapter 167
Kim Jun-min urgently checked the back seat.
“Director! Are you alright?”
Si-heon held Ga-eun’s head and body tightly as his eyes flashed.
“What’s that?”
A large SUV was blocking the road in front of their suddenly stopped sedan.
“Reverse.”
“What?”
“I said reverse!”
At Si-heon’s shout, Kim Jun-min turned his head.
The SUV was moving again.
This time, its strong intent to ram their sedan was clear.
Kim Jun-min hurriedly turned the wheel and hit the accelerator.
They narrowly avoided collision, but the SUV’s menacing presence remained.
Looking around, vehicles of the same model had surrounded them.
Noh man-su’s car and the two security vehicles following them were forced to stop urgently outside this wall of vehicles.
They were trapped. Completely.
“Call them now. Tell them to send the men.”
“Yes, sir!”
Just then, Ga-eun stirred in Si-heon’s arms.
“Ah… Si-heon…”
Si-heon held Ga-eun tighter and whispered softly.
“It’s nothing, Ga-eun. Just wait a little…”
His words stopped abruptly.
The area between Ga-eun’s legs was becoming wet.
Her water had broken.
“…”
Swallowing back a curse, Si-heon took a deep breath.
He couldn’t get excited.
He couldn’t panic.
If he did, he might not be able to protect Ga-eun… and their child.
‘No. That won’t happen.’
Si-heon gently stroked Ga-eun’s back.
As if nothing had happened at all.
“Ga-eun.”
“Nngh…”
“Take deep breaths. Slowly. Remember what you learned at the hospital?”
Ga-eun managed a faint nod.
“You’re doing well.”
“Si-heon… our baby…”
“We’re going to the hospital. Everything will be fine soon, just close your eyes and breathe slowly.”
The anxiety in Ga-eun’s eyes began to fade at his words, and she completely leaned into him, beginning to breathe steadily. As if his presence alone was enough to give her peace.
His surging emotions crystallized into an unwavering resolve to protect her.
Si-heon pressed his lips to his wife’s forehead, whispering encouragement, while his sharp eyes tracked the men approaching from their car.
Someone stepped out of the driver’s seat of the vehicle that had blocked their sedan.
“Sir, it’s Director Park Ju-seong from PK Holdings.”
“So I see.”
Park Ju-seong was holding a baseball bat.
“Should I give orders to the men outside?”
“Wait.”
Si-heon’s gaze darkened intensely.
They couldn’t move rashly.
Ga-eun might get hurt.
Fortunately, Noh man-su was with Eun Seon-mi.
He had instructed him never to leave her aunt’s side until they reached Seoul, and like always, he would follow through.
At that moment, Park Ju-seong swung the object he was holding against the car’s windshield.
“Wow, damn! They say the Hwanhee Group chairman’s family orders their cars specially from Germany. It’s like a tank, an absolute fortress. Nothing less than a battle tank.”
Unsteady steps. Disheveled appearance. Eyes glinting with madness.
Park Ju-seong’s condition was visibly abnormal.
“Hey, Kwon Si-heon! Do you know what I’ve become because of you? My family is destroyed, and my leg is crippled. I’ve got nothing left to lose, you know?”
Park Ju-seong sneered.
“So you should lose something too. For instance, your wife that you can’t take your eyes off for a moment? She’s damn beautiful. When you’re gone, I’ll take care of her. So don’t worry and just disappear.”
…This worthless bastard dares to speak about her.
Si-heon forcefully suppressed his boiling rage and maintained his composure.
Protecting Ga-eun was more important than falling for such a pathetic man’s provocation.
“Hey, smash it all! Make it worth the money!”
At Park Ju-seong’s cry, the men holding blunt weapons began striking their car.
“Sir! We’re going through!”
Just as Si-heon nodded, cracks appeared in the window beside him, and after several more powerful strikes, it shattered with a resounding crash.
‘Damn it…!’
Si-heon held Ga-eun tightly with one arm while catching the sharp object coming through with his other hand.
Red blood trickled down his wrist, staining his black knit sweater.
“Sir!”
With Kim Jun-min’s shout, the men who had followed in their security vehicle began pushing back Park Ju-seong’s people from the outside.
“Nngh… Si-heon, it hurts… it hurts so much…”
Si-heon, who had been ignoring his bleeding hand, grimaced at Ga-eun’s faint voice.
“Get to the hospital, quickly!”
“Yes, sir! We’ll clear the way! It’s going to be rough!”
Si-heon twisted the wrist of whoever was holding the weapon and forcefully pushed them outside.
“Aaargh!”
With an ear-piercing scream, the car began to shake violently as it moved urgently.
Si-heon held the sweating Ga-eun close to his chest and whispered.
“Ga-eun, just hold on a little longer. Just a little…”
Her white hands clutching his collar tightened and began to tremble.
“Haa, ha… Si-heon… are you… alright?”
He drew a breath and nodded.
“Thank goodness…”
Si-heon felt his heart burning at the sight of Ga-eun murmuring in relief.
“Our baby… what should we do…”
“It’s alright. Everything will be fine.”
“Our baby… please save our baby… I’ll be fine, so please… the baby first…”
Si-heon clenched his teeth.
How could she say such things, how could she?
He needed her to live.
Without her, everything would be meaningless.
Everything he possessed, and… even the child.
“You’ll both be safe. So please don’t talk like that, Ga-eun.”
Si-heon enveloped her completely in his embrace, bowing his head as he murmured.
“Don’t even think about leaving me. Not under any circumstances.”
Please. His additional words carried a desperate plea.
Breathing heavily, Ga-eun cupped Si-heon’s cheek with her hand.
“Si-heon… promise me. Promise you’ll stay by my side. When I wake up, I want your face to be the first thing I see.”
Si-heon nodded.
“Of course. Absolutely.”
“Let’s… see the baby… together…”
“Yes. We will.”
“The baby’s name… you choose it… Si-heon… that would… make me… so happy…”
Drop. Her pale hand fell limply.
“…Ga-eun.”
“…..”
“Ga-eun!”
Ga-eun’s breathing became more labored, and cold sweat began trickling down her forehead.
Holding the unconscious Ga-eun, Si-heon prayed and prayed again.
Please let her be safe.
Please come back to him.
Without her, he was nothing—just an empty void.
But until they reached the hospital, Ga-eun did not open her eyes.
