<Why did you come?>

The person she most wished would appear in her most miserable moment did not come.

No matter how much she tried to rationalize him to herself, the layers of accumulated resentment couldn’t be suppressed.

“I hate…!”

“Freesia!”

He called her name.

She had been addressed as ‘you’ all her life by those who deemed her to be below themselves. Even her own mother had never called her by her given name.

She had always desperately wished her ‘husband’ would call her that.

But now, in this moment, there was not a trace of joy.

It felt as alien. It felt as if someone else’s name was being called.

Taking advantage of the moment when Izar’s grip loosened, Freesia weakly pushed against his chest.

“Ha…….”

Above her bowed head, a thin laugh was heard. When she struggled to lift her head, she saw Izar, frowning and letting out a bitter laugh.

As if he found it all absurd, Freesia’s body temperature dropped further. Even his voice was filled with scorn.

“Didn’t you ask me to be kind to you when you were in pain?”

Izar barely suppressed his voice as he looked at Freesia, who was rejecting him with all her strength.

He had been waiting by her side for her to regain her senses.

But now, as soon as she did, she told him she hated him.

She had said she loved him so many times with her own mouth. The heat rising in his throat felt unbearable, as if someone was branding him.

“Who was it that said that on the first day? Tell me!”

“Mmph….”

“You asked me to stay by your side, and now you’re changing your words.”

She had indeed said such things.

Of course, Freesia remembered.

“Not now….”

But it was Izar who had broken the promise to stay by her side first.

“So, please, just let me go.”

She was painfully regretting returning to his side now.

Izar silently looked down at Freesia, who had her head bowed and shoulders shaking.

Freesia was rejecting him.

“Ha.”

They say that when one experiences an unexpected shock, they let out a hollow laugh. Izar kept letting out such laughs as he looked at Freesia shedding tears.

Was this laughter filled with anger or resignation? It just hurt so much with each breath, as if his lungs were burning.

When he decided to tell her the truth about their marriage, he had imagined her reaction countless times.

He thought he would at least take care of the minimum concerns.

But in all those countless imaginings, he had never once expected Freesia to be the one to turn away from him first.

“What happened there?”

His grip tightened on her slender shoulders. It was ironic that he had to exert all his strength to avoid crushing her.

“Tell me now. What happened at the banquet.”

This was beyond a mere prank on her drink. What had she endured in the time he had lost track of her, for the light to disappear completely from those beautiful eyes?

The eyes that used to drive him mad with desire in his chaotic dreams.

“…….”

When Freesia avoided his gaze, his heart plunged into an endless abyss.

She was a woman who had never once avoided his gaze, always stealing glances and speaking of her love. But even that minor avoidance now felt like shards piercing his heart.

On the other hand, Freesia genuinely did not want to see Izar.

‘Please, just leave me alone.’

Otherwise, she felt she might scream at him, asking why he hadn’t come to find her sooner because he was with Atria.

Having endured such unexpected humiliation, her heart was already frayed and tattered.
