‘There was no need for me to bring a sword.’

Tristan hesitated, hand on his sword sheath, but then refrained from drawing it.

Maya, who had climbed onto the wyvern’s back, soared into the sky.

‘She’s still hanging on.’

As if seeing Tristan hesitate, Maya waved her hand.

The Pendragon and Bayarden families, with their dragon blood, had physical abilities surpassing ordinary humans, including eyesight as sharp as a hawk’s.

Even in the midst of battle, she had the presence of mind to care for him, signaling she was still managing.

And in truth, Maya was still faring well.

The thrill of battle had her blood boiling for the first time in a while.

A rope was already tied around the wyvern’s neck.

It was something she had prepared when on the ground, but the wyvern, disliking it, kept thrashing about.

‘It’s not easy.’

It was something even the knight order hadn’t managed, after all.

This was Maya’s plan.

‘To show who’s the master until it tires out.’

Of course, she knew her plan might seem a bit thoughtless and reckless to others!

That’s why she hadn’t been completely honest with Tristan.

Sometimes not saying anything can build more trust.

She was going for the ‘sunlight strategy’, since it’s said that warm sunlight can make a traveler take off their coat.

“Whoa…”

Of course, it didn’t work on the wyvern.

Screech!

The wyvern, trying to shake off Maya on its back, spun around in the air.

Time for a change of plan.

“It’s the leech strategy, then.”

She had enough strength to kill it, but she needed it to stay alive, so that wasn’t an option.

It was a pity.

As the world spun, blood rushed to Maya’s face.

She had tied herself to the rope for such occasions.

The same rope that had held firm when used against the snake monster now made the wyvern’s thrashing seem merely cute. The rope was strong and tightened.

Holding onto the sword hilt stuck in its body even gave her the fun of seeing the world upside down.

Flying quickly, the wyvern was perfect for cooling down her heated face and body.

“What a beautiful view.”

Maya said loudly enough for the wyvern to hear.

Even if it didn’t understand the exact meaning, the tone was enough to be provoking.

“Maya!”

Tristan’s voice pierced through the air.

“I’m okay!”

Maya shouted back at him.

Despite being so far away that her face must have looked like an ant, she knew exactly what was happening.

Such vision implied his hearing must be good, too.

“Don’t talk nonsense! What if you fall? I’ll attack, so you should come down to the ground first!”

It seemed he heard her.

“No!”

Dangling, Maya firmly shook her head.

“This rope won’t break, so don’t worry!”

Shouting, Maya gripped the rope tightly, her veins bulging with the effort.

Heat made the world spin momentarily.

‘I can do this.’

Reassuring herself, Maya plunged her sword deeper into the wyvern’s scales.

Shriek!

The wyvern thrashed in pain.

It must have been frustrating and painful. It’s still a young wyvern, not yet fully regained its strength.

I can win.

‘There’s no way I’m losing to you.’

It was a battle that never should have happened.

Realizing flying was futile, the wyvern headed towards the forest.

It tried to scrape Maya off its back against the trees, attempting to inflict fatal wounds.

“Ugh…”

Maya protected her head, minimizing the damage.

A strong pain shot through her left arm, and her right ankle was badly strained.

But Maya didn’t give up.

‘…I’ll need to ask for this to be healed before we fight.’

Even in a battle where she had to abuse her body, she needed to be fully functional.

Still, it was a close call against an opponent she could have lost to.

Pain seeped into her body.

Her consciousness blurred.

“I will never lose.”

Gripping the rope tighter, Maya clenched her teeth.

The regrets from her past life were greater than the pain she felt now.

She had no intention of letting this precious opportunity slip away.

The sound of Tristan hurriedly following behind echoed.

He was still assessing the situation.

That’s what Maya wanted.

“You just have to watch, Tristan.”

Maya sternly reminded him.

“I won’t lose.”

With her words filled with certainty, Tristan had no choice but to lower his sword.
