“Do you know the white snake?” Maya asked the wolf.

—To think such a lowly human like you could kill him…

But it seemed the wolf wasn’t listening to Maya’s words.

“Do you know the whi—”

—I’ll kill you!

Ignoring Maya’s words completely, the wolf lunged at her. Maya anticipated its movement and dodged to the right while holding Serene in her arms.

Crash!

A pillar shattered into pieces.

Maya still had questions.

“How do you know?”

The ash-gray wolf, as large as the white snake, was enormous.

It made no sense that a creature of this size had gone unnoticed.

Moreover, the fact that the white snake’s death was kept top secret, known only to a select few within the imperial palace and the Magic Tower, made it even more puzzling.

So how could this wolf possibly know?

“Y-Your Highness… We need to call for help…”

Serene’s trembling voice, as she clung to Maya, interrupted her thoughts.

“We need to go…”

Meanwhile, the white dragon, sounding impatient, urged Maya on.

[Leave her behind and let’s go already, huh?]

If Maya went to fight the monster now, Serene, who was shaking so much that she couldn’t even stand properly, might end up in danger.

But she couldn’t just leave the monster unchecked either.

‘Even if I call the knights, they won’t be much help.’

The current captain of the imperial knights, Graham, was a man who had lived in peaceful times.

Although he had the intelligence and skills to rise to the position of captain, none of it was useful in actual combat.

‘I’ve beaten him several times when he underestimated me.’

In any case, the captain would be of no help.

The nobles who served as knights under him were no different.

They had grown dull from living in peaceful times.

So to minimize casualties, Maya had to fight.

But there was one problem.

A monster of this magnitude couldn’t be defeated without revealing her power.

‘I have to show my strength.’

Even though she had discussed mutual assistance with Serene, she still didn’t fully know her situation.

She could fight just enough to hold out until the imperial knights arrived, pretending that she had no power, just as she had told Reserfield.

That would be the easiest way to keep everything from unraveling for Maya.

But people would undoubtedly get hurt and die.

Maya didn’t want that.

‘I’ve seen enough death in my previous life to be sick of it.’

Hadn’t she vowed not to leave such regrets behind in this life?

Maya decided to trust Serene.

“In exchange for my help, please keep what happens next a secret.”

“Keep what a secret?”

“What’s about to happen now.”

“…What?”

Serene asked, bewildered.

Maya snapped her fingers.

In response to Maya’s signal, the veiled sword that had been urging her to fight by her side transformed into a blade.

The gleaming white blade shone against the backdrop of the night sky.

Serene was captivated by the sight of Maya, dressed in a magnificent gown, holding the sword with reverence.

‘…That sword just appeared out of thin air.’

The sword seemed to belong to Maya.

Serene recalled the history of the Pendragon family.

The Sword of Pendragon.

It had been strange that Maya hadn’t shown any fear or agitation from the moment the monster appeared.

‘I thought she was in a state of shock from fear.’

But that wasn’t it.

This woman wasn’t afraid of the monster at all.

She accepted what even the imperial knights feared, without hesitation.

Serene watched Maya as if spellbound.

Maya quickly assessed the situation, thinking rapidly.

She needed to divert the wolf’s attention and drive it away from here.

‘It would be helpful if the wyvern were here.’

She regretted not bringing him, even in her handbag.

“Maya!”

So when she first heard Tristan’s voice, she thought it was just her imagination.

“What?”

Maya’s eyes widened as she spotted Tristan.

The man flying towards them on a wyvern was unmistakably Tristan, who was still in his younger form.

Even from a distance, his familiar face was hard to mistake.

“Tr… I mean, how are you here?”

Maya was about to call his name naturally but hesitated when she remembered Serene was in her arms.

“I’m here to take you away, Lady Maya. Please climb on.”

Tristan, who seemed to have grasped the situation, spoke with urgency.

Noticing that he addressed her with “Lady” and blinked as if readjusting his role due to Serene’s presence, Maya felt a strange discomfort.

‘It feels odd to hear Tristan call me “Lady” in the middle of all this.’
