Chapter 110
Only after Eir’s leg was healed and she finally let out the breath she had been holding did Rubel pull the sword from Magnus’s thigh.
Blood spurted out, and Rubel frowned, stepping back to avoid it.
As soon as he retrieved his sword, Rubel swiftly beheaded the noisy magical beast. The creature, now reduced to darkness, polluted the surroundings, and the knights stiffened their expressions.
Meanwhile, Magnus, like Eir earlier, was gasping for breath, unable to move. When the priest who had finished treating Eir tried to rush over, Rubel gestured for him to stop.
Instead, he ordered a nearby knight to stop the bleeding.
Why not let the priest handle it? The same question arose in everyone’s minds, but no one dared to disobey his order.
The knight hurriedly took out a handkerchief to press against the wound and tried to tear his own cloak to wrap around it. But then Rubel’s hand intervened.
“Do you really need to tarnish your honor like that?”
When the knight looked at him in confusion, Rubel pointed at Magnus. Finally understanding, the knight hesitantly reached for Magnus’s cloak. After all, a knight’s cloak was a matter of dignity.
Still, the knight couldn’t bring himself to tear the cloak of the Shinote family’s eldest son and just held it for a moment. But Rubel’s silence made it clear what he had to do, and with a loud rip, he tore the cloak. He added another handkerchief to keep out the dust and wrapped the torn piece of Magnus’s cloak around the wound.
And so, Magnus, with his leg impaled and his cloak torn, lay collapsed on the ground.
“Y-you lunatic.”
As soon as he could speak, Magnus spat out curses.
Rubel looked down at him as if to say, “What do you expect?”
“You brought this on yourself. Did you forget I’m still the commander?”
“You madman! I’m supposed to take over next month!”
“Exactly. How many times have I told you that even as the family’s knight commander, you’re not fit for the role? You’re worse than this guy.”
The poor knight, who had torn the eldest son’s cloak and been compared to him, tried to hide his face so Rubel wouldn’t remember him.
Magnus trembled, grabbing a handful of dirt and throwing it at Rubel.
“You! You’re bewitched by that witch, aren’t you?”
Rubel stepped back, avoiding the desperate act.
“Says the one carrying around something suspicious.”
“Th-this is for interrogating the witch I captured……! I went this far to save you, and you……!”
He groaned again, clutching his thigh.
Rubel glanced at Eir, who had collapsed, then looked at the priest. The priest, unsure why Rubel was looking at him, soon realized his gaze was directed at Eir and said.
“She’s…… unconscious.”
The awkward honorific made everyone nod in agreement.
Rubel clicked his tongue, unable to hide his displeasure.
At that moment, a spark ignited in Magnus’s mind.
He remembered a servant casually mentioning that Rubel seemed to have someone in his life. Was that woman this woman?
“So it’s true that you two have been living like lovers!”
Without any certainty, Magnus blurted it out. Rubel looked down at him with a bored expression, as if questioning whether he was still alive. But while Rubel remained unfazed, the family knights couldn’t help but be shaken by the news.
Come to think of it, they had heard such rumors too. They exchanged glances, trying to gauge the situation. Could it really be true that Rubel Shinote, the holy knight of the Divine Empire, had been bewitched by a mere witch?
‘No way.’
