Chapter 158
Eir just blinked with a confused face, as if she had no idea what he was talking about.
Magnus muttered to himself, “Right, an alias, it could be an alias.” Then he immediately began to passionately describe Isabella’s appearance and how he had met her.
Eir didn’t understand why she, having been kidnapped, had to listen to this story, but she listened anyway.
But as she listened, the story was surprisingly captivating. Was it because it was a love story, or was Magnus surprisingly good at storytelling?
She wasn’t sure, but when Magnus talked about how Isabella had soothed and healed his long-standing inferiority complex, she found herself saying without thinking:
“No wonder you couldn’t help but love her.”
“Right?”
Magnus, who had his feelings acknowledged for the first time in his life, visibly brightened and jumped to his feet. But his face soon hardened.
“But that’s why it’s even more suspicious now that I think about it.”
Eir frowned, unable to understand what he meant as his attitude jumped back and forth. Magnus then thrust his face close to hers and said frustratedly:
“I’m wondering if she approached me on purpose. She disappeared right after connecting me with the witch.”
Eir was startled and pulled back.
Did that mean Magnus Shinote was connected to the witches? Eir finally properly understood what Magnus had said at the beginning.
‘Isabella, a witch like you. Don’t you know who she is?’
Come to think of it, he did say Isabella was a witch.
Right. Having been suddenly kidnapped and immediately bombarded with a love story, she was too disoriented to properly grasp the situation.
Eir reorganized her thoughts.
So Isabella is a witch, and she bewitched Magnus to connect him with the witches.
But still, does it make sense that he would fall for such seduction and join hands with witches?
Especially the eldest son of the Shinote family? The second son of the Shinote family is one of the Divine Empire’s Twelve Lions, and the third is a high priest, but now the first son is saying he’s associated with witches?
After the wave of absurdity passed, a vague anger began to boil.
No, does this person really have no brains?
If Magnus was connected with witches, she realized her own kidnapped situation had become much more dangerous, but she was so surprised that that thought came first.
No matter how foolish he might be, he should at least know his own name. If he understood the weight of the Shinote name stamped at the end of his own name, he couldn’t have done this.
Even if he had done so in a moment of foolishness, the first thing he said to Eir after capturing her wasn’t ‘I was foolish enough, but now the witch is approaching my brother too. I won’t stand for it!’ or anything like that, but ‘Where is Isabella?’
“So you’re saying Isabella betrayed you?” Eir asked, bewildered.
Magnus cut off her words. “So you do know who Isabella is.”
“No?”
“Then why would you say that?”
“Well…… I mean, I just thought… is that really important right now? Did you bring me here just to ask about that?”
Magnus’s face flushed with shame.
He knew what Eir was saying. Like his father and brothers, she too was looking down on him, half-despising him, and pressing him about whether that was important right now.
But while his father and family might do that, wasn’t she a witch?
“How dare you belittle me!”
Eir was quite bewildered by this statement, as she hadn’t belittled him at all.
“No, when did I…….”
“Act like a proper witch! Do you think you can become an ordinary imperial person like the ones here just because you betrayed your kind and aligned with Rubel? You’re just a traitor, unwelcomed by everyone!”
Angered, Magnus shot these sharp words at Eir.
Eir was surprised that he could make such correct and sharp remarks. Perhaps he had awakened her to the situation she had been ignoring all along.
Of course, he had the situation completely backwards.
“If you don’t know anything about Isabella, then fine. Hey!”
