“We’ve already been discovered. And you’re carrying something so conspicuous.”

He drew blood on his palm to create a magic circle, then briefly chanted a spell. Soon, the surrounding shadows swallowed Chrome, and then began to squirm and change shape.

In the place where the darkness melted away stood a large black wolf.

“Get on.”

Chrome said in a low, growling voice. Eir hesitated in surprise.

“You can do this too?”

“Then how do you think I transformed into a rabbit?”

“Isn’t it just an illusion? Can I really ride on your body?”

Finding her words embarrassing, Chrome unconsciously shook his head like a dog would. Eir let out an amazed groan as she looked on, but hearing the fluttering of wings in the distance, she quickly climbed onto Chrome’s back.

Chrome ran quickly like a real wolf. His earlier remark about them being discovered seemed to be somewhat true. The pursuing birds began to increase in number.

“Can we escape?”

When Eir unconsciously spoke with a worried voice, Chrome sighed and retorted.

“You’re worried about that now? I thought you were planning to get caught since you said I didn’t need to help.”

“That’s not what I meant……. But why are you here anyway? You said you couldn’t come to help because something came up.”

“I had my own business here too. Finding you was purely coincidental.”

“Did you also come to steal something?”

Seeing that he had disguised himself despite being an Alphadem witch, he must have been up to something shady.

When Eir asked, Chrome sighed and answered as if he wasn’t going to hide it.

“I came to get medicine.”

“Are you injured?”

“No. Medicine that drives away darkness from the body. A friend of mine is imprisoned in the Central Temple. I was going to rescue her.”

“You have friends?”

She was genuinely surprised, but after the words left her mouth, it sounded like she was mocking him. Chrome shrugged his shoulders, and Eir turned back with concern.

“Did you steal the medicine?”

But when she first met Chrome, his hands were empty. Eir momentarily felt guilty that Chrome might not be able to save his friend because of her.

Of course, the one imprisoned in the Central Temple was also a witch, and Chrome’s statement about rescuing her was essentially saying he would sneak into the Central Temple, but still.

“Stop thinking useless thoughts and look ahead properly.”

Chrome, who instinctively sensed that her mind had become complicated, warned in a low murmur. With a sudden leap of Chrome’s body, Eir let out a soft groan and tightly gripped his mane.

She wondered why he suddenly reacted that way, but it seemed someone had attacked the darkness with a spell.

She could see a sharp darkness, shaped like a spear, embedded where Chrome had jumped from.

“Chrome! You’re betraying Lady Freidis?”

Someone’s shouting voice could be heard from behind. Eir turned her head while keeping her upper body low. She could see witches gathering and preparing to cast spells at them.

“Oh my…….”

“Hold tight.”

When did so many gather?

Eir did as Chrome instructed, pressing her body as close as possible to his before gripping his fur. She wondered if this was okay, if it didn’t hurt him, but after what happened next, Eir changed her mind and frantically grabbed his fur anywhere she could.

That was because Chrome was practically leaping and flying in all directions, almost spinning a full circle in mid-air to avoid the attacks.

Her head was spinning, and the scenes changed so rapidly she could barely keep up. A fireball passed right over her head, and arrows of darkness swarmed toward Eir and Chrome.

“Ugh.”

Chrome let out a low groan, as if he had been injured. But he didn’t slow down at all and quickly ran toward an exit where bright moonlight could be seen.

But at the last moment, darkness rose like a wall from the ground. Chrome barely managed to twist his body before colliding, but the sudden change in direction caused the God’s Mirror that Eir was carrying to stab into her back. Eir’s hands lost strength, she let go of his mane, and slid off.

Eir briefly lost consciousness as her head hit the ground.
