Chapter 192
He said dejectedly.
Eir flipped her palm over and clasped his hand. As she caressed the back of his hand with her thumb, Rubel drooped his upper body as if collapsing and rested his head where her hand was. Eir, as if she had been waiting for this, raised her hand and stroked his head.
Rubel pressed a kiss against her thigh. When he slowly lifted his head, his face was a wreck, making his earlier confession feel all the more real. Eir furrowed her eyebrows at the fact that he was suffering because of her.
From the beginning, she wasn’t someone extraordinary enough to deserve his affection. Once he heard the truth, he too would…… lose his feelings for her.
“Rubel, I…….”
Eir was about to confess something truthful about herself. Rubel lowered his head and applied medicine to her arms and thighs. Eir trembled whenever his touch grazed sensitive areas.
It felt ticklish, and the sticky, transparent ointment stung whenever it rubbed against her skin, making her feel even stranger.
“I-I’ll do it myself.”
“Let me do at least this. I couldn’t do anything while you were getting injured like this.”
His voice was tinged with deep remorse. Eir looked at Rubel’s face as he focused on her wounds. She had to ask something, otherwise she would be uncomfortably aware of every place his hands touched.
“How have you been all this time?”
“I’ve been a mess.”
“I’m asking what you’ve been doing. You still haven’t answered what I asked earlier. Magnus…….”
“…….”
“No, what happened with that bastard?”
Eir felt intense guilt, but still referred to Magnus using the term Rubel had insisted on. Because the second son of the Shinote family right in front of her glared at her with cold eyes the moment she mentioned the name Magnus.
And as soon as he heard the term ‘that bastard,’ Rubel, as if he had never glared at her so fiercely, lowered his head with a docile expression and began applying medicine to Eir’s arm.
“I tried desperately to find you. But I couldn’t find you anywhere. In the midst of that, I discovered that Magnus had gone to Mahma. That’s when I realized. He had already handed you over to the witches.”
Just recalling that time made his grip tighten involuntarily. This caused him to accidentally aggravate her wound, making Eir groan in pain. Rubel quickly apologized, took a deep breath, and relaxed his hand.
“So as soon as I heard that news, I escaped.”
“W-what did you say?”
Hearing something absurd for the second time, Eir was startled and moved her arm, almost reopening her wound. If Rubel hadn’t quickly pulled away, he would have been scratched by her nails. Rubel scolded the careless Eir and looked at her with disapproval.
“What are you doing? You should stay still while I’m applying the medicine.”
But what was important now wasn’t the medicine. Eir asked again, hoping she had misheard.
“You escaped? Are you out of your mind?”
“Well, I did end up going back eventually.”
“Just the fact that you attempted it is insane. What kind of thoughts do you have to live with to be such a mess?”
“Do you want to get bitten again?”
Seemingly displeased with her harsh words, he threatened her with raised eyebrows.
He couldn’t understand how she could be so oblivious to his feelings. What was the big deal about escaping? If committing a crime would have brought him to Eir, he would have done it without a second thought.
Rubel’s unrepentant attitude was clearly visible on his face, and seeing this, Eir lightly flicked his forehead.
“You should be careful. This could really lead to serious trouble.”
“I don’t care.”
“How can you not care? Weren’t you planning to go through the Purity Rite to be with me? If you act so recklessly, you’ll die before me and leave me alone.”
Rubel’s hand stopped. He looked at her with a serious expression.
“If I die first, what will you do?”
She had said it to scare him, but Rubel was genuinely serious, as if he was really facing such a situation. Eir felt like she was standing before a child asking, “If I die, what will mom do?” She deliberately chose words that would provoke his feelings the most.
“What do you mean what will I do? I’ll have to escape, of course.”
“Escape? With whom?”
