Chapter 97
It was a desperate confession of love.
But at the time, Magnus didn’t know Isabella was a witch.
No, even after learning she was a witch, he still liked her for a while. Though he was momentarily shocked and felt betrayed, he also thought that she was the only one who would introduce him to the witches of Alphadem and consider his situation.
Isabella, after introducing Magnus to the witches, became even sweeter and more affectionate, like honey on the tongue.
But…….
‘Then one day, she disappeared.’
The news that Rubel had been kidnapped by a witch reached Magnus, which meant the mission had failed and the witches involved had scattered.
That had happened a long time ago, so why hadn’t she returned yet? Could it be that Isabella was the one who kidnapped Rubel?
If not, why wouldn’t she return, knowing Magnus was waiting for her?
She knew the mission had failed, and she knew he would be anxious—so why didn’t she come back to tell him the truth?
Just then, a servant entered and urgently informed him that his father was looking for him.
Magnus’s heart began to pound as if it might burst, and he was filled with terror, fearing that his father had discovered the foolish things he had been doing behind his back and would now issue a harsh punishment.
Trembling, he entered his father’s office.
Duke Andreas watched with sharp eyes as his foolish son walked in.
A brief silence followed, and as their eyes met, Magnus realized his father had figured everything out. At the same time, something hard flew through the air and struck Magnus’s head.
A searing pain shot through him, and blood streamed down from the torn wound around his eye. Magnus staggered and collapsed.
The heavy glass ashtray that had hit him shattered into pieces as it struck the door.
Duke Andreas, still not satisfied after smashing his son’s head, stood up and personally stomped on his son’s body. Even now, under his knightly father’s foot, Magnus’s body, which had only pretended to learn martial arts, crumbled completely. Soon, he was being beaten mercilessly all over.
“How dare you, you wretched child! You thought I’d let you off easy, so you joined hands with witches and tried to kill your brother?”
“F-Father, wh-what are you talking about? I didn’t…….”
Magnus tried to deny it, claiming he was hearing this for the first time. But Duke Andreas wouldn’t be beating his son like this over mere suspicion.
His eldest son was too foolish to even distinguish such things.
“I should’ve killed you long ago and fed you to the dogs. I kept you around because you were my son, despite your incompetence, and now you’ve gone and caused this disaster. Did you think I wouldn’t find out that you sold the family name and approached the Lord of Fellasis?”
As he spoke, he kicked Magnus in the stomach. Magnus couldn’t even speak, groaning in pain as the kicks continued.
Duke Andreas, suppressing the urge to break the hands Magnus had instinctively raised to protect his face, finally stepped back.
He wanted to break all four of his son’s limbs, but he still needed Magnus’s help to save his second son.
“Get up.”
He commanded. Magnus, spitting out blood and groaning, struggled to his knees. His face was already swollen and disfigured.
“Find out from the witches where your brother has disappeared to. Then go and bring him back yourself. If you don’t return with him alive, I’ll really chop you into pieces and feed you to the hounds.”
“B-But they’re already searching for Rubel. The priests are–”
Magnus’s face was struck again with a loud slap. Duke Andreas lowered his trembling hand, took a deep breath, and walked away.
