Chapter 138
At his incomprehensible words, Sia was left confused. She wondered if she had said something strange to the people around her while half asleep. While she searched her memory, Aesir, who had already stepped closer, cleared up her confusion.
“I heard that you shall face only those who have black hair. Oh, what truly beautiful black hair.”
Sia looked up at Aesir, who had come right to her bedside, her eyes widening as if they might tear. Feeling that the situation was somehow not good, she tried to move while pulling the blanket up.
But Aesir was faster. After wrapping her tightly in the blanket so she could not move, he lifted her as she was and said with a bright smile,
“As you can see, we do not have much time, so please excuse me.”
“W-Wait…”
“My apologies, but I will cover your mouth for a moment.”
Before Sia could properly react, Aesir pulled the blanket over her mouth. His movements were so fast that she could barely follow them with her eyes, let alone respond. Held tightly in his arms, she had no choice but to be carried out through the window.
Even though her room was only on the second floor, the building here had higher ceilings than in Korea, so it felt like jumping from the third floor. The dizziness made her shut her eyes reflexively. When she opened them again after the floating sensation, they were already outside the ducal manor.
It seemed that the speed she had experienced from Nox before had not even been his full pace.
The running speed of werebeasts far exceeded anything a human like Sia could imagine. The scenery blurred past like paint spreading through water.
She was too frightened, and the sight before her felt unreal, so no sound came out. Even if it had, it probably would have been nothing but ragged breathing.
Even as she gasped inwardly, Sia forced herself not to close her eyes. For someone with a fear of heights, it was a remarkable effort. She needed to see where they were going so she could find her way back later. Even in this moment, she was worried about Nox.
She could almost picture her crybaby cat waiting endlessly, shedding tears because she was gone.
After running for some time, only after passing countless trees did their speed finally slow a little. With only her eyes visible, Sia looked around. No matter how she looked, she had no idea where they were. Even the kinds of trees commonly seen on the mountain behind the Blois estate were now rarely visible, which made her uneasy.
Aesir quietly observed the human in his arms, who was unexpectedly still. Of course, he was aware that he had covered her mouth. In any case, he thought it worked out well. If she resisted and he ended up injuring her, it would interfere with his plan.
Moreover, since she wasn’t resisting, perhaps she had wanted to escape from the cat tribe. Ah, was that why she had said she would only meet those with black hair? Among the cat tribe, there had been only one with black hair.
Perhaps from the beginning, she had wanted to move somewhere where other races lived.
Satisfied with that thought, he headed toward the direction where Marcel was waiting.
At first, he had planned to use the people of Vera Village to lure her out. There had been a man then who spoke as if he knew the internal affairs of the Blois household well. That meant there would surely be at least one villager connected to a servant of the ducal estate, and fortunately there were two.
The original plan had been to send those two to the estate, have them contact the servants, and draw the human outside. But when he heard that the human was ill and unable to move, Aesir had no choice but to come personally.
He had to leave as few traces as possible.
From a distance, Marcel spotted him and waved. A carriage was prepared beside him. Since they were still within the Blois territory, they hurried in order to leave quickly.
“Your Excellency.”
As soon as Aesir landed on the ground while holding Sia, Marcel ran over and called out quietly. Since they were moving with the smallest number of people possible to avoid attention, Marcel had to handle even the minor tasks himself.
From the moment she was set down, Sia began to observe carefully. The thought that everything would be over the moment she was put into that carriage made her watch closely both the man holding her and the new man who had approached.
“…Is this her?”
Marcel asked with widened eyes, as if witnessing something remarkable. Aesir nodded.
“Her pupils really are round.”
“Oh…”
While watching the two converse, Sia spoke cautiously.
“…Could you put me down?”
She tried her best to sound calm. But at her request, Aesir simply smiled brightly and refused.
“I cannot have a lady step barefoot on the dirt. I will place you directly into the carriage, so please do not worry.”
At his words, irritation rose slightly in Sia. He had been bothering her subtly for a while now. This man only talked about what he wanted.
