Chapter 141
Battle for the human
Seeing the scale on Aesir’s neck reminded Sia of a mermaid, and she narrowed her eyes as she stared intently at the man. With his clearly handsome face and long hair, he did look somewhat like a merprince.
But how could a fish possibly run that fast?
If you’ve gained two sturdy legs, shouldn’t you at least lose your voice?
Sia glared at Aesir, who was chattering beside her about how it was his first time seeing teeth that small, and how interesting it was that her canines were so blunt.
He looked extremely excited. It seemed that the bite she had put all her strength into had felt no more than a child’s prank to him. At a moment like this, Sia found herself thinking of Nox, who had gone away to another region.
When she was with him, she had felt the difference between a werebeast and a human, but she had never felt such a strong sense of discomfort like this. It made her realize once again just how much he had been accommodating her.
When Sia bit her lip tightly in distress, Aesir stopped his rambling. The human’s eyes, filled with tears, were so clear like glass beads that he found himself staring blankly.
Come to think of it, it was a rare eye color among werebeasts. Completely black eyes. And because of her round pupils, her eyes themselves looked mysterious.
Unable to take his gaze off her, Aesir held out his hand and spoke.
“…I don’t know if there’s somewhere you wish to stop by, but we don’t have much time.”
He couldn’t afford to waste time lingering in the Blois territory like this. His plan to cross into his own domain while hiding her inside a carriage had fallen apart, and since he didn’t know when pursuers might come after them, he needed to return as quickly as possible.
Now that he thought about it, ever since meeting this human, not a single thing had gone according to his plan.
Thinking it strange, he tilted his head to the side when he saw that Sia still didn’t take his hand. At this point, he couldn’t help but ask.
“Do you perhaps want to go back to the Blois ducal manor?”
“Isn’t that obvious?”
“…Why?”
“Because my cat will be waiting.”
“……”
Aesir’s mood turned extremely foul. He hadn’t expected a particularly calm response in the middle of a kidnapping, but being looked at with such undisguised contempt by a human twisted his temper.
“You may change your mind once you visit my territory.”
“…What if I still don’t want to?”
“Rather than that, please give us a chance as well. We certainly won’t disappoint you, Lady Sia.”
“I don’t want to go…”
“Oh dear, that’s not the answer I wanted, but unlike you, I will give you a chance.”
The conversation once again felt strangely out of sync, just like before, and Sia grew irritated, but she no longer thought of trying to run. How could she possibly shake off two men who chased after her like they were jogging while she ran for her life?
Still, she didn’t want to leave the Blois territory like this. What if Nox couldn’t find her? No, people say that when distance grows, hearts grow distant too. What if he ended up forgetting her?
It felt as if her body temperature dropped in an instant. After coming to this world, Sia felt fear and loneliness for the first time. The thought that she might truly be alone suddenly frightened her.
Aesir watched quietly as Sia hesitantly stepped backward. He couldn’t understand which part of what he had said had frightened her, and he found it troubling. He hadn’t intended to threaten her. He had only wanted her to visit his territory once.
In any case, having no intention of wasting any more time, Aesir swiftly grabbed her by the waist. After wrapping the struggling Sia tightly in the blanket once again, he turned to head back to where the horses were.
At that moment, a sword flew in and struck the ground in front of him.
“You weren’t planning to go somewhere other than the place we agreed on, were you, Marquis?”
At a voice that should not have been heard here, Aesir frowned. As he slowly turned his body, James wiped the sweat from the back of his hand and gave a playful grin.
“Huu, I ran like a madman to get here.”
Far behind James, several people who appeared to be his subordinates were running toward them along with John. There was no telling from where they had started running, but they were certainly not a welcome sight to Aesir.
The plan had been that, as promised, the human would choose whether to go with the snake tribe or the wolf tribe, but he had intended to take her to his territory first and make her familiar with him. That plan had now fallen apart. With a coldly sunken expression, Aesir untied the hair he had bound.
The current situation, where nothing was going as he intended, was beginning to irritate him quite a bit. Instead, he blamed James.
“Rather, why are you here, Duke Kris? It will be troublesome if you don’t keep what was agreed upon.”
“No, you see, the snake tribe is so cunning. I couldn’t feel at ease, so I ran over as soon as I finished my business. I didn’t break our agreement.”
