Chapter 146
“There he is!”
After that, he began mercilessly cutting down the necks of the wolf tribe soldiers who were closing in around him. Nothing reached his ears. No thoughts came to mind anymore. His status as a duke and his own circumstances had already been completely erased from his head.
There was only one thought left. As a male, he had to protect his female. Every enemy before his eyes was nothing more than a shameless creature aiming for his female.
Slice, thud-roll. Slice, thud-roll.
Each time he moved, leaving afterimages behind him, the heads of wolf tribe soldiers rolled across the ground. In the battlefield where not even the sound of breathing could be heard, the wolf tribe soldiers gradually began to feel fear and stepped backward.
“S-Someone…”
Without a leader to command the battlefield, the wolf tribe finally began screaming and trying to flee in different directions. But Nox couldn’t afford to be merciful like usual.
Those who had dared to invade his territory and might even take away his female had to be completely wiped out. He chased down the fleeing soldiers and cut off their heads one by one.
“Haa, haa…”
Silence settled over the camp, which had become a scene of carnage. The only sound left was Nox’s breathing. Dennis, who had confirmed Nox’s location belatedly, stepped into the camp. His eyes trembled as he looked over the slaughtered wolf tribe soldiers, then he turned his gaze toward his lord.
Holding a sword thickly stained with blood, Nox walked forward slowly. The place his steps led to was where the two wolf tribe soldiers who had been knocked unconscious earlier were lying. Without turning around, Nox called out to Dennis.
“Dennis.”
“Yes.”
“Don’t leave a single wolf that invaded our territory alive. Kill them all.”
“…At your will.”
Dennis’s voice trembled with tension as he answered. It was the first time he had seen his lord this enraged, and he even felt fear. A savage, razor-sharp aura seemed to swirl around his lord like a storm. It felt as if anyone who stepped too close would be shredded without a trace.
Unable even to swallow, Dennis withdrew and began gathering the soldiers under his command, driving the wolf tribe into one place. Without a leader, the wolf tribe soldiers didn’t even realize where they were being pushed, and they only advanced while focusing on the enemies before them.
Nox struck the cheeks of the two unconscious wolf tribe soldiers without mercy, waking them.
“Ugh!”
“Ghk!”
The two came to their senses with a jolt, and when they saw Nox looking down at them with a terrifying expression, they instinctively tried to scramble backward.
“If either of you takes one more step back, I’ll send your heads flying just like the others.”
At his ominous mutter, the two finally noticed the horrific scene around them. Anger surged for a moment, but the force radiating from Nox crushed it down instantly.
“There is only one reason I left you alive. To hear you tell me where your leader is right now.”
Looking down coldly at the two who did not answer, Nox added,
“Those who don’t speak are useless.”
Before he even finished speaking, he mercilessly cut off the head of one of the wolf tribe soldiers. The remaining one, who hadn’t even seen the sword move, began trembling in terror as he realized he had wet himself.
The world of werebeasts was fundamentally one of survival of the fittest. Over time, systems and hierarchies had formed, but their innate instincts could never be changed. The lone remaining wolf tribe soldier had no choice but to reveal anything he could in order to live.
“I-I don’t know where Duke Becker is.”
The moment the soldier finished speaking, Nox raised his sword. The soldier screamed and hurriedly added,
“Th-the snake tribe!”
“…The snake tribe?”
“Marquis Kris made an agreement! If the human was successfully kidnapped, she would choose fairly between them… ngh.”
At the words ‘kidnapped human,’ Nox’s eyes darkened, and before the soldier could finish, he cut off his head. From the cleanly severed surface, the blood did not spurt, it only flowed quietly. Since he had kept his promise, he had been killed with as little pain as possible.
Swish, splatter. Shing.
After flicking the blood from the blade, he sheathed his sword and began to move. Step, step. Each time his foot came down, the blood-soaked ground clung wetly to the sole before peeling away.
The footprints he left behind, filled with silent fury, were clearly imprinted.
