Chapter 47
“What happened?!”
Cedric, who had been preparing refreshments in advance since he knew Nox always spent his break with Sia lately, sensed the commotion and hurried over.
But he, too, had no choice but to cover his nose and step back from the unique scent of blood that assailed his senses.
“…Cedric, call for the physician.”
“Yes, sir. Understood.”
In the meantime, Nox picked Sia up in his arms.
“Uh… It’s really not that bad of an injury.”
“Stay still.”
The servants, who rarely even looked her way, all turned to stare at Sia at once. Nox quickly carried her to his room, realizing that he wasn’t the only one reacting to the scent of Sia’s blood.
They would surely realize soon that Sia’s blood was different from that of an ordinary werebeast. Nox felt a sudden sense of crisis.
Even so, as he held her, the sweet scent of her body reached him. He had wanted to hold her like this at least once, but he’d never wanted it to happen this way, and his heart felt heavy.
A powerful urge to hide Sia away in his arms surged within him. Nox pulled the small body in his embrace even closer.
Even after entering his room, he couldn’t let his guard down. He’d told Cedric to fetch the physician, but the physician was also a werebeast. Wouldn’t he find this blood scent suspicious?
Nox, anxious with worry, set Sia down on the sofa and quietly left the room. Watching him, Sia muttered to herself,
“…A bit of ointment would make this heal right away. But, I wonder, do they have ointment in this world?”
Even if they didn’t have ointments like Hu×din or Mad×cassol, there should at least be something to put on wounds, right?
As Sia looked at the scratch on her palm, she turned to Nox, who had come back into the room holding a small jar.
Sitting on the sofa, Sia called out in a loud voice,
“Lord Nox, really, it’s not a bad wound.”
But Nox, who had reached her before she knew it, answered with a pained expression as if he had been hurt.
“…But you’re bleeding.”
“At this level, the blood would disappear just by licking it, you know.”
Of course, she had no intention of actually licking it, but she wanted to emphasize how minor the wound was.
Suddenly, her wrist was grabbed, and she was startled.
But Nox’s next action shocked her even more, leaving her frozen like a statue.
With a slow, deliberate motion, Nox extended his tongue and licked her wound. The slightly rough texture of his tongue was transmitted directly to her palm.
The skin, raw from the scratch, tingled unbearably, but Sia was so surprised she couldn’t even make a sound.
“Huu… As you said, the blood disappeared right away, but the wound is still there.”
“……”
“Let’s put some ointment on, just in case.”
Nox’s ears were red as he tried to act nonchalant, opening the jar of ointment. But the taste and scent of her blood still filled his mouth, making his heart pound wildly.
Nox had never thought of wanting to devour her, even though she was human, but now his mind was in turmoil.
Is human blood really different from that of a werebeast?
Or is it because he thinks of Sia as someone special?
Is the blood of a female inherently different from the dirty blood of males?
Even as countless questions raced through his mind, Nox silently and gently applied ointment to Sia’s palm, making sure not to hurt her as he did so with his fingertips. When her hand suddenly tensed in his grasp, he finally looked up.
“Sia…”
Sia’s face was flushed as if it would burst. Seeing her normally pale nape turned pink, Nox unconsciously tightened his grip on her hand.
“Ouch!”
“S-Sorry!”
Startled, Nox quickly let go, then remembered he was still applying ointment and gently took her wrist again. Come to think of it, her wrist was so thin it fit easily in his hand.
Her arm, from wrist to forearm, was also so delicate. Nox realized it was certainly his fault for making her open that ink bottle with such frail arms, and slowly raised his gaze.
Meeting his eyes, Sia covered her face with her arm and said,
“…You can let go now. I’ll do it myself.”
“No, I’ll—”
“It’s— It’s really fine! It honestly doesn’t even hurt!”
“S-Still…”
With the strange atmosphere, Sia didn’t know what to do, and Nox was also at a loss, not knowing how to resolve the situation.
