“Caligo, marital relations must never be initiated by force. Our wedding night could not be helped, but… this is wrong nonetheless.”
Those golden eyes, now showing traces of intelligence, gazed blankly at her. Soon, what welled up in them was deep despair.
He seemed utterly at a loss, not knowing how he should proceed, and could not meet Fiona’s eyes directly.
His feelings, conveyed more specifically than any words of apology could express, dissolved in an instant the accumulated hurt and resentment she had carried.
“I… trusted him. I did not wish to make things difficult for you.”
Revenge? There was no way this innocent creature could harbor such poisonous intentions. Why had she not realized this sooner? Of course, this too was Jayden’s fault for twisting their relationship from the beginning.
“But… it was not so…”
Fiona had known from the start that Caligo was not entirely intact. If he behaved somewhat clumsily, she should have led him and set things right. She deeply regretted blaming him with pointless suspicion and resentment.
In the moment she resolved never to do so again, Caligo unexpectedly pierced her defense.
“Then what must I do? To avoid making things difficult for you.”
She had not expected such a question to return so directly, and Fiona found herself thoroughly flustered.
If she answered him, would it not create an atmosphere where they must proceed with relations? Her deliberation had returned to its starting point.
“That… I will teach you gradually, later…”
Attempting evasion due to her embarrassment, she found that Caligo—now far more clever than before—only made her situation more difficult instead.
“According to him, do you dislike copulation?”
That he had come to command such vocabulary. It was surprising and joyful, yet somehow disconcerting.
Moreover, he had learned to wear expressions quite effective for situations like this.
A look mixing regret, dejection, and a very slight hint of hurt feelings—when combined with his beauty, it seemed to add an indescribable pathos.
“No, it’s not that I dislike it, but…”
“Then, do you enjoy it?”
“I do not dislike it. But now it is too sudden, and the circumstances are not…”
“Then I wish to know. The way that you enjoy.”
At this point, could he be a master strategist hiding his true nature? Fiona was beginning to suspect Caligo’s level. A strange premonition arose that behind his clumsy and foolish actions, innate skill might lie concealed.
Yet the transparent golden eyes gazing steadily at her were pure and harmless, without a single speck of dust. Looking into those mysterious eyes that drew one in the more she gazed, Fiona reconsidered her thoughts. What was she thinking, with such an innocent husband?
In a way, his words about learning what he lacked were a most admirable attitude.
But… this is difficult.
In truth, Fiona’s hesitation stemmed also from her own ignorance.
Caligo had asked her to teach him the way she enjoyed, but Fiona’s only experience with relations between man and woman was with Caligo himself.
Yet on the other hand, she thought that perhaps she—having seen and heard and learned more than Caligo—ought to be the one to teach.
But where to begin, and what to teach, and how—this remained unclear. After deliberating for a long while, Fiona eventually traced back to the very beginning of relations.
“I cannot say this is the way I enjoy, but…”
And then, what she had tried somehow to postpone had begun.
“I do not know well, but for a woman and man to come together and do such a thing…”
Fiona began to speak haltingly, recalling as best she could what she knew.
Of course, her knowledge consisted only of innocent love stories she had occasionally overheard from girls her age while living in the village.
Yet for two people whose first meeting had been far from ordinary, perhaps this very process was necessary.
“First, there must be feelings between you.”
The moment her words fell, Caligo’s gaze toward Fiona deepened further.
Meeting her eyes, a proactive wish to convey his heart. A signal that he already held deep feelings for her.
It was Fiona who, embarrassed by that unwavering gaze, averted her own eyes.
