Chapter 38
Click. The door shut with a dull sound.
The unused room was pitch-dark, lit only by the faint glow of moonlight and stars slipping through the window.
Staring at her husband, his face mottled with shadow, Emily finally found her voice as her understanding started to dawn.
“N-no… don’t tell me. You really… with your own mother…?”
“I told you to rest quietly in your room. Why did you come out instead?”
“H-how could you?! She’s your mother, she gave birth to you!”
The fog in Emily’s mind slowly began to clear.
Her mother-in-law, bent over like a beast, letting out obscene cries. Her husband behind her, taking her. And those violet eyes—sharp, aware of her presence—still flickering with traces of pleasure.
A shiver ran down her spine.
This was sin. Something that belonged in hell itself.
“How can you do such a thing with your own mother, you animal!”
“Hm…”
“God will punish you! How dare you defy the natural order like that—how can you be so shameless—!”
“I think you should close that mouth now, Wife.”
Carlos reached out casually.
He clamped a hand over Emily’s mouth and gripped the back of her neck firmly, whispering,
“If you had stayed quiet, things might have turned out better. But you’re too simple, aren’t you?”
“Mmm! Mmph!”
“Still… this saves me some effort.”
Smiling faintly in the dim starlight, he dragged her across the floor. Forcing her onto the bed, he shoved cloth into her mouth and bound her wrists tightly.
“Stay here quietly for now, wife.”
“Mmph! Mm!”
“I need to go see Mother. I left so abruptly, she must be startled.”
He brushed her cheek as if nothing were wrong, then left the room. Emily struggled desperately against the bindings, but the knots were too tight to undo.
Carlos walked calmly back down the corridor.
Inside the slightly open door, his mother, who had been writhing beneath him moments before, was now hidden beneath the covers, her face tense.
“What is it, Carlos?”
“It’s nothing, Mother. I just remembered something I needed to do.”
It seemed she hadn’t realized anyone had seen them. That was for the best. Carlos smiled gently, concealing everything.
As he stroked Brunhilde’s forehead, her restless expression gradually softened. Relaxing under his touch, she soon drifted into sleep.
After placing a kiss on her brow, he took up a lantern and returned to the room where Emily was confined.
The door creaked open.
Low, muffled groans met his ears, along with the rustle of movement. Emily lay where he had left her, still bound, her face soaked in tears.
He looked down at her with an impassive expression and spoke.
“You’ve been struggling quite a bit, haven’t you?”
His face remained blank in the dim light, yet his voice was as gentle as ever.
“You shouldn’t strain yourself too much. It might harm the child you’re carrying.”
At the mention of the child, something flickered across Emily’s face. Carlos smiled faintly and reached out, brushing her damp hair back into place.
“You need to give birth to a healthy child.”
“Mm… ngh…”
“I’ve been planting my seed in you for days for that very reason. Haven’t I?”
His calm expression only made his words more chilling. And yet, the warmth of his touch made her want to lean into him.
Looking into her emotion-filled olive eyes, he smiled again. Then, briefly stroking her still-flat belly, he murmured,
“If you promise not to scream, I’ll remove the cloth.”
His tone was gentle, almost kind. She nodded frantically.
Carlos reached into her mouth and pulled out the cloth, soaked through with saliva. She gasped, drawing in ragged breaths.
“Shall we go back to our room now, wife?”
“Y-yes…”
He moved to lift her, but she spoke in a trembling voice.
“C-could you… untie my hands too?”
He studied her face for a moment, then loosened the bindings. Emily stood on shaky legs.
“Would you like me to carry you?”
“N-no… I can walk…”
Forcing a weak smile, she steadied her voice. Carlos gently supported her and led her toward the door.
And then, the moment he let go to open the door—
“Help me!!”
Emily screamed, shoving him with all her strength. She broke free for an instant and tried to run.
But she didn’t even make it three steps. As if he had expected it, Carlos moved instantly, grabbing her again.
“Thank you, Wife.”
