They had a blind devotion to one person, and if that love wasn’t reciprocated, they would abandon their lives.

“They would have survived if they had a thick skin like yours. None of them were able to do that.”

“Hah, me? What do you mean by ‘thick skin’?”

“Most women in Hermeland wouldn’t openly keep multiple men around.”

Alokes closely studied Eugenie’s face.

In the past 500 years, has there ever been a woman like her?

Even Silvea, who stood at the pinnacle of power in this generation, might have had lovers in her youth, but she could never show it because of the public’s gaze.

“Usually, humans tend to focus their affection on just one person. But you…”

Alokes, while savoring the taste of the flower petals left in his mouth, suddenly smiled in realization. Meanwhile, Eugenie glared at the man with white skin as his lips moved.

‘This damn perverted bastard.’

He must have pried into others’ innermost secrets without permission.

“You’re truly interesting, Eugenie Norton.”

“…?”

“You see, the reason you can do this is because you don’t really love anyone.”

Alokes continued in a leisurely tone.

“But you know it’s something to be ashamed of. Do you even think it’s sad? In that sense, you’re different from Tristan.”

“Shut up.”

“You’re ashamed, and yet you don’t love anyone? You even know what loneliness feels like.”

The speed at which Alokes spoke quickened.

Outwardly, he appeared quite shameless, but the woman known as Eugenie Norton had an unexpectedly complex inner world.

“…Ah, Eugenie Norton. Now I understand.”

And it was a very weak understanding.

“You’re actually afraid of men. You already know that a man’s love isn’t eternal.”

“…?”

“That’s why, even though you keep five men around, you never give them your heart.”

Perhaps his words hit the mark. The strength in the woman’s head, which had been held by his hand, gradually weakened.

When someone causes chaos after physical harm, it is sometimes more effective to strike them mentally.

‘This would be perfect for taking her to the furnace.’

However, just as Alokes was about to straighten up, a sound like someone being struck with a blunt object came from outside the room.

Thud! Thud! Thud…!

“Damn…”

He clicked his tongue quietly and turned his head toward the source of the noise.

He had thought the two men from earlier were immobilized, but it seemed that wasn’t the case.

But as he turned his head, in that brief moment,

“Ugh!”

The searing heat began to dig into his left shoulder.

* * *

She had heard that if you see the face of a kidnapper, you should give up any hope of survival.

‘Now that this perverted bastard has shown his face, I’m done for.’

However, instead of giving in to despair, Eugenie carefully observed the perverted bastard who was holding her and talking incessantly.

It wasn’t even a conversation; it was extremely one-sided, like a scholar who had been starved for conversation for a long time.

‘The information is interesting, but it’s not enough for what I want.’

But while the bastard spoke, Eugenie noticed that the black curtain behind him was changing. The darkened space, and the squirming tree branches, were all created by this pervert.

However, unlike before, the curtain of darkness was beginning to thin. She knew it was because his focus had been scattered.

‘I need to keep him talking more.’

Since her arms and legs were bound and she couldn’t summon the holy bullet, she had no choice but to wait for Carter and Napier to notice the situation.

‘If only someone outside could distract him, scatter his focus!’

So, what did it matter if her painful wounds were torn open?

“You’re actually afraid of men.”

It didn’t matter if the pervert was spouting her weaknesses as though it were entertainment.

Eugenie didn’t flinch, not even the slightest. While intentionally trying to provoke him, she squirmed her waist, carefully estimating how much holy bullet was left in the belt pocket of her pants.

‘Just one shot left.’

So, when the pervert turned his head and the strength left the tree branch holding her hands, Eugenie twisted her wrist with all her might and freed herself. She pulled the bullet from her pocket, but…

The gun had long since been buried between the branches and was nowhere to be seen.

‘But my shooting skills are terrible anyway.’

In that case, there was no need to use the gun. A more primitive method would do.

She concluded that thought in two seconds, and without looking back, Eugenie drove the holy bullet into the pervert’s shoulder like a sharp object.

“Die right now, you perverted bastard.”

Ah, it seemed she hadn’t been as calm as she thought.
