Chapter 126
‘Then it’s worth taking some risk.’
Eugenie placed both hands on the coffin lid and nodded at the others behind her.
“Then you three, please take care once I awaken this one.”
Though the three had somewhat uneasy expressions, Eugenie had already begun channeling magic. A shimmering, spring-like power spread through her slender fingers, and soon her amber eyes widened.
‘Ah, it’s working.’
Her magic was properly transmitted through the coffin lid.
‘Waking the sleeping is a thousand times easier than reversing time on the dead.’
Her knees began trembling as energy drained. As the coffin lid gradually became transparent, Eugenie let out an involuntary cry of accomplishment.
“All done—”
But they say you should never relax until the very end. At the very moment she smiled proudly, a gentle tremor came from beneath her feet.
‘What? Did I mess up the ending again?!’
But Cassius realized the danger first and shouted,
“Take your hands off, Lady! It’s a trap!”
“What…!”
There must have been a device designed to sabotage anyone trying to break the seal. As Cassius said, it was something a group with good looks but poor character might do.
‘What do I do?’
If she continued the unsealing, the tremors would worsen. If the underground quakes continued, the rock above would surely collapse…!
“Eugenie, take your hands off!”
“Carter, ugh!”
“Madam!”
Just as Eugenie tried to withdraw her magic-infused hands, a sharp, electrifying pain flickered in her vision, making it blur. It was as if whatever had started could not be allowed to escape.
‘Hands. I have to take my hands off.’
She needed to stop and evacuate…
“Lady!”
Cassius urgently grabbed Eugenie’s wrist.
At that moment, her vision was suddenly pulled into darkness, as if dragged by a strong gravity. It felt like being drawn into a one-act play, with a black curtain falling over her eyes.
‘What? Again?!’
Eugenie was being pulled into Cassius Lysander’s memories.
Hadn’t she already seen Cassius’s secret? Yet there was still something left unseen?
‘Ah. Maybe Cassius didn’t show me everything!’
Before she could confirm that suspicion, her vision refocused, and once again, through thirteen-year-old Cassius’s memories, she saw her surroundings.
A trembling boy knelt, while people nearby spoke calmly, as if discussing the weather.
“Who is this one we brought this time?”
“This one. Looks average; might produce a decent result.”
“Hmm, indeed.”
Though the tone was indifferent, one person suddenly grabbed Cassius’s hair roughly. The boy cried out reflexively in pain.
“Ugh!”
“Looks like he’d suit being a cherry blossom, with hair that color.”
“Let me go, you bastards!”
Cassius struggled and shouted from the grasp holding him. Though afraid, he was angry and tried not to show it.
Unlike the casual tone he’d used with Eugenie later on.
“They were trying to turn me into a flower.”
“Why a flower?”
“I’m pretty. Like cherry blossoms.”
The weak Cassius stood no chance against fully grown adults. Before long, he was shoved into a coffin left wide open.
‘Those heartless bastards…!’
Eugenie clenched her teeth at the total chaos that had engulfed Hermeland a hundred years ago, but after all, these were just old memories of someone else. There was nothing she could do except witness the situation through Cassius’s eyes.
‘Looks like he kept his eyes open even as his consciousness faded.’
It was a maddening sight, but she resolved to absorb as much as she could.
‘What was the sealed container like when I was trying to awaken it?’
The coffin at the edge of Cassius’s vision was already locked. Just as she was about to look back at those who had brought Cassius here…
“A gathering like this… how convenient.”
Along with a chilling voice that made her ears tingle, familiar silver hair shimmered under the lamp’s light.
‘The twisted tree pervert has really shown up!’
