Chapter 102
Exion’s red eyes were widened to the point they looked like they might pop out. Arzeletta thought to herself.
She had always imagined him as someone like a lion or a leopard, but now… he looked like a well-trained puppy.
Raising her hand, Arzeletta gently traced Exion’s lips, which stared back at her in disbelief.
“May the blessing of the divine… please return safely… ah—!”
For just a moment, she let her guard down. Arzeletta’s blessing was once again swallowed by Exion’s tongue.
This time, there was no flower-petal kiss, no foolish puppy-like hesitation. The soldier’s strong hands gripped Arzeletta’s slender body as if to crush her. Without giving her a moment to breathe, his tongue parted her lips and entered.
Her head tilted back, her eyes shut. The man’s tongue that delved relentlessly into her soft mouth burned like fire. Caught off guard, Arzeletta’s legs gave out. But the strength of his hand gripping her waist left her no room to collapse.
“Hhng—”
A soft moan escaped through the small gap between their lips. As if that too were precious, Exion sealed the opening tightly.
Long strands of hair twisted around the man’s hand. Arzeletta’s sweet, warm moisture mixed with the hot, fierce moisture of the man. Arzeletta felt as if she might lose consciousness from the kiss alone.
“Haa.”
“Arzeletta…”
“Hhng.”
Their lips finally parted. As her breath still trembled with the lingering heat of the kiss, he called her name with quiet desperation. Just the breath that carried her name brushing against her lips made her heart sting.
A fragile shimmer of moisture gathered at the corners of Arzeletta’s eyes, now flushed red. Exion pulled her even deeper into his embrace, as if afraid she might slip away at any moment. It was so tight, she could hardly breathe.
The pounding of his heart continued to thrum through their connected bodies. Arzeletta felt like she was being struck by the force of it, and she had to bear the full impact of his heartbeat with her entire body. At this point, she couldn’t even tell whether it was his heart or hers that was racing.
“There’s something I really have to tell you, so…”
“Haa… hff…”
“So don’t go anywhere. You have to wait. Promise me. Please. You have to.”
He asked her again and again. Exion’s body was so heavy that Arzeletta nodded quickly in response. She felt like she might suffocate if she didn’t. Her whole body ached from how strongly his heart pounded against her.
Exion took a deep breath, imprinting the sensation of Arzeletta squirming in his arms into his body.
It was going to be a long mission—almost a full month. He was deeply uneasy about leaving her behind.
But if, after rashly swearing a knight’s vow, he left the woman alone out of his own feelings, then that would only shove Arzeletta straight into the center of gossip.
One month. It was only a single month.
Compared to all the time he had neglected her before, it was nothing.
“You love Theogrim, don’t you.”
At that sudden whisper, Arzeletta froze.
“I know.”
“……”
“…I don’t care.”
“……”
“No matter what you feel, no matter what you do, from now on—”
I’ll be your knight. I’ll protect you so that no one can ever hurt you again.
He swallowed the words he had been saving. As long as this mission ended safely, then everything would fall into place.
“When I come back, it’ll be during the peak of the seasonal festival.”
“……”
“I think a lot of wonderful things will happen.”
Everything Exion said sounded unfamiliar to Arzeletta. It was clearly the common tongue, one she had used all her life. And yet, in this moment, his words felt like a completely new language formed under a different order.
Wonderful things… Had she ever expected something like that even once in her life?
“I’ll be back.”
Arzeletta nodded.
His crimson eyes were more serious than she had ever seen them, and his rough, fierce hands were more careful than she had ever felt. She had no words to offer.
Arzeletta had nowhere else to go. She would always be here. A month, a year—even longer—she would be rooted in this land like a tree.
So if that time gave Exion the strength to return, if he believed she would be waiting for him, that was enough.
If her immovable time could offer even the slightest comfort to this wild, fierce, and lonely beast of a man—then that alone would be enough.
