Chapter 10
Aniella, who had initially felt pity for the old man with the cut-out tongue, changed her mind. She came to think it was fortunate that he could no longer go around crushing people’s heads.
What about the man before her now? His tongue was perfectly intact, allowing him to frighten her as skillfully as a venomous snake. And he could use magic without even needing to chant incantations!
He was capable of killing her even more easily than the infamous Nutcracker.
“Please, please spare me.”
She was crying so much that it was difficult to keep her eyes open properly. As she pitifully begged for her life, Paiki let out a soft ‘pfft’ and laughed.
“Oh my. You’re more of a coward than I thought. I was prepared to use any means necessary if you didn’t listen, but you’re crying this much from just a little scare?”
As soon as his words ended, Aniella’s body floated into the air. A small scream escaped her startled lips. She didn’t know what was about to happen to her, but she didn’t have the courage to watch. She squeezed her eyes shut and braced for impact, but instead, her back soon met the soft surface of a bed.
“You seem to have no idea why I brought you here, so I’ll just tell you. It’s not a bad story.”
Paiki neatly tucked the blanket over her.
Aniella felt the touch of the bedding gently enveloping her body instead of being crushed, but she couldn’t feel relieved. It seemed like he would say something frightening again after this.
“I want to conduct research on making you lazy.”
“……What?”
Perhaps because she was so scared, she couldn’t comprehend what she had just heard.
Whether Aniella was staring blankly with a look that asked what he meant or not, Paiki, after tucking her in, continued speaking while patting her.
“It’s about making a person like you, who would work diligently until the day they die if left alone, fall onto the path of corruption.”
The expression on the man she looked up at twisted into a vile smirk. She thought that if there was a man born a villain from the moment he came into this world, it was definitely Duke Paiki.
“For example, like a lazy cat that sleeps much more hours in a day than it’s awake.”
It was too peaceful and cute an analogy for a villain to make.
Aniella’s eyes, lost in thought, slowly rolled. It was a relief that he hadn’t brought her here to kill her, but it was hard to take his stated reason at face value.
What kind of madman would kidnap someone just because he wanted to see them sleep more than a cat?
“Um, Duke.”
Aniella mustered her courage and called to him quietly.
“What?”
“Could you stop joking and send me back?”
Paiki, seeing that she didn’t believe him, narrowed his eyes and shook his head. He meant it was sincere, not a joke.
“You really want me to sleep?”
“Yes. Until you get used to a life of only sleeping and start to think you don’t want to work.”
Why would he want to see that?
Aniella couldn’t understand what was going on in his head at all. Even if, for some reason, he needed research on her being lazy, there was still a big problem. In fact, it was the biggest problem.
“You could have used a normal method, or even taken me while I was sleeping, without all this.”
“Of course, I could have talked to you and asked for your help in this research plan. But…….”
Paiki stopped the mechanical patting of his hand.
“That process is bothersome, you see.”
“…….”
“If I explained what I want to do to you, you’d worry, right? Even if I managed to persuade you, you’d say, ‘Then I’ll ask my father if it’s okay.'”
It would be fine if the Viscount agreed, but if he opposed, then he’d have to persuade him too. Paiki clicked his tongue, saying even the thought of it was tiresome.
