Hello everyone! there are changes in the chapter numbering, I had edited it to the correct arrangement as there was confusion in the chapter count. Apologies and enjoy the translation!

“For a family you called ‘pitiable,’ it sounds quite harmonious. But you being pitiable isn’t a reason for me to hire you as my assistant.”
Marius said, stroking his messy beard. Sensing that he didn’t particularly like her, Aniella grew anxious.
“The reason magicians work as assistants is to learn how to research and live as a magician themselves in the future. But that’s not your case.”
“Although I’m not a magician, I am curious.”

“Curious, you say? Go home, now. It infuriates me when I spend time teaching someone, and they quickly quit because it wasn’t what they thought it would be.”
Marius scowled. Flustered, Aniella decided it was better to be honest.
“Actually, I’m in need of money. That’s why I’m looking for a job.”
“Why would a Viscount’s daughter need to?”
“Not all nobles are wealthy. Some families have difficult circumstances. Especially those like ours, who’ve experienced repeated business failures.”
Marius slowly nodded, as if finally understanding. But a pitiful situation was just that—pitiful. He felt no obligation to sympathize with a woman he’d just met. He was still suspicious she might be a spy sent by Paiki.
“In that case, you should go back before it gets any later. I won’t be giving you money for a carriage just because it’s late.”
It seems no amount of pleading will work. Aniella let out a deep sigh and plodded down the stairs. However, not long after, a clattering sound came from behind as Marius hurriedly chased after her.
“Hey! Didn’t you say you were Viscount Mullier’s daughter?”
Aniella nodded with a puzzled look.
“Then are you related to Holly Mullier?”
When her eldest sister’s name unexpectedly came from Marius’s mouth, Aniella blinked in surprise.
“Oh, you know my sister?”
Marius clenched his fist and repeatedly exclaimed, “Great! Fantastic!” A gentle smile spread across the man’s face as he approached her.
“It’s dangerous for a woman to be wandering around alone at this hour. Let me ensure you get home safely.”
Aniella was baffled by his sudden change in attitude. Still, she didn’t have the energy to walk home, and since he was offering a free carriage ride, she didn’t refuse. He asked incessant questions throughout the ride.
Was she doing well? What is she doing these days? What kind of sister was she at home?
“Did they catch that bastard who left Holly?”
Aniella’s expression darkened sharply.
It was about two years ago. Holly had met an officer at a party and fallen in love. He was rumored to be a womanizer with extravagant habits, but naive Holly believed he was simply misunderstood.
Then one day, Holly eloped with the officer. If it was a reckless act born of overwhelming love, it might have been better if they had lived happily somewhere no one knew them. But the officer left Holly at an inn in a remote village, saying he’d be right back, and then fled completely.
Left alone in an unfamiliar place, Holly found herself in an even worse situation—she was not alone in her body. She had no choice but to make her way back home, heavy with child.
‘There’s no disgrace quite like this!’
Naturally, Viscount Mullier was furious. To wash away the shame, he vowed to find the runaway officer and kill him. The problem was, there was no man in the family with the capability to do so. The Viscount’s swordsmanship was abysmal.
Therefore, they had to send a representative to duel on behalf of Viscount Mullier. Of course, that incurred expenses.
“We haven’t caught him yet.”
Even after Holly had the baby, and enough time had passed for the child to walk, the matter remained unresolved. Claudie even joked that perhaps the nephew would have to grow up and duel his own father.
What if words become reality?
It never sounded like just a joke to Aniella, and she always told Claudie to stop saying it.
“Actually, we did manage to find the man once. But…”
“Did you lose the duel?”
Aniella nodded weakly. She had hoped for a crushing blow to fall upon the scoundrel who abandoned a pregnant woman, but reality wasn’t a fairy-tale world where good is rewarded and evil punished.
