Chapter 1
The morning bell rang.
Ordinary people call this sound ‘the beginning of a holy day,’ but I call it something else.
“The start of labor.”
My name is Mireille, and I’m the nun in charge of the lowliest odd jobs in this holy church.
Calling myself a ‘nun’ makes it sound somewhat pretty and pious, but the work I actually do is nothing like that.
Most of it consists of all sorts of menial chores passed down by the ‘senior nuns’ who directly attend the Saintess.
For example, scrubbing chamber pots or cleaning up pigeon droppings in the garden.
“Mireille! The Saintess says to replace all the scented candles that were put out today with lavender ones!”
Or, perhaps, undoing work I’d already finished and doing it all over again.
‘Urgh, that’s too much.’
It’s hard, to be honest.
Sometimes I think it’s petty and filthy work, too.
But I don’t complain.
There isn’t much a low-ranking nun without divine power like me can do, anyway.
And being allowed to live in the ‘Sacrium Holy State,’ the holy land of those who believe in the God of Light, wasn’t an opportunity given to just anyone.
“Even complaining is a luxury.”
Besides, this much is nothing compared to what I went through in my previous life.
That’s right, I’m someone who remembers her previous life.
And as for the story of that previous life…
I died during s*x.
It might be hard to believe, but it’s true.
How can a woman die during s*x, you ask?
In my previous life, I was a C-Class Guide.
Now, hold on.
Hearing that I was only C-Class and not A-Class might make me sound like I was nothing special, but that couldn’t be further from the truth.
At the time, our country had a population of fifty million and roughly three thousand registered Espers.
By contrast, there were only 103 Guides.
In other words, Guides were an extremely valuable human resource regardless of rank.
What’s more, I had a very broadly compatible wavelength that allowed me to guide just about any Esper.
That fact made me a national hero, but it was also exactly why I grew sick to death of my profession.
Why?
Because guiding was based on s****l contact.
And because I was C-Class, I could only provide meaningful guiding through s****l intercourse.
Do you understand a little better now?
In other words, I had to do that all through my working hours.
‘Yeah, that.’
At least ten people a day, and as many as twenty.
Of course, the government treated me well.
An annual salary in the hundreds of millions was a given, along with countless medals, a luxury apartment, a nice car, and even a chauffeur who doubled as a bodyguard.
I was praised everywhere I went, and the families of Espers would even send me handwritten letters of thanks on a regular basis.
But I found that life difficult to endure.
No matter how much you dressed it up with the justification that I was saving lives, s*x was still s*x, wasn’t it?
‘National hero, my a*s. More like a s*x hero!’
Anyway, the day I died was when a record-breaking Dungeon Break erupted and people were dying left and right.
I was working my way through the endless stream of guiding requests, and one Esper who came to see me had already reached the verge of going on rampage while waiting through the long line.
Then, the moment he entered the examination room, I was hit by a force that came crashing down on me like a nuclear explosion.
Yes, that was how I died, caught in an Esper’s rampage.
Still sitting on top of another Esper.
At the very moment my life ended from dying during s*x, I begged someone whose identity I didn’t even know.
Was this really right?
Couldn’t they please give me just one more chance?
I wanted to experience pure love, too!
Was it the god of this world who heard my prayer?
When I opened my eyes again, I had become a young novice nun named ‘Mireille.’
For some reason, I still possessed the same powers of a Guide from my previous life, but there were no Espers in this world.
There were no Dungeons or Gates, either.
Instead, this place had monsters called ‘demonic beasts,’ along with other powers known as ‘aura and divine power.’
As a Guide, I effectively possessed neither of those, which made me a completely ordinary person in this world.
Me, who had been special in my previous life, becoming ordinary.
‘This is the best!’
And on top of that, I was a nun who had to remain chaste for the rest of my life?
It was exactly the life I had dreamed of and longed for!
Ahh, how peaceful.
A life where I cleaned pigeon droppings beneath the morning sunlight, offered holy prayers, and ended my day.
It was the complete opposite of the days when I had to deal with an endless stream of Espers coming at me without a moment’s rest.
“Now this is what I call life.”
I was genuinely happy.
