Chapter 90
The one who created this situation was the Emperor. Kasselard had made his intentions clear from the start. Her Majesty the Empress also argued that they should refuse, since their ulterior motives were obvious.
Even though his son’s will was clear, the Emperor changed his original stance and came out like this, so there was no reason for Kasselard to go along with it obediently.
“So what do you plan to say to them now? The Nabel Empire’s delegation will arrive in the capital soon!”
So it still hadn’t reached His Majesty’s ears. It seemed Christian was handling things better than expected.
“They’re the ones in a position to ask for help, Your Majesty. And besides, who knows whether that woman with an unclear background is really the Emperor’s daughter?”
“Hah…”
“There are many royals in this empire who need a Guide, so we can pair her with them. In the end, what they want is for me to close that rift for them.”
Receive guiding and close the rift. That was the essence of it.
If the Princess’s partner wasn’t the Crown Prince, the Nabel Empire might strongly object, but the ones cornered right now were them.
‘That’s only possible if that woman is actually an S-Class Guide, though.’
Kasselard already suspected the Nabel Empire’s confidence, since he had experienced a case where he couldn’t become a pair with an S-Class Guide because their match rate was bad, and yet they were pushing their Princess forward as an S-Class Guide.
Every nation that possessed Transcendents and Guides knew that no matter how high the rank, it was useless without a high match rate.
Even so, where did their boldness come from?
Their attitude made it seem like they had an S-Class Guide with a high match rate with him, and so they believed they could swing Kasselard around as they pleased.
Kasselard found that confidence irritating. As Crown Prince, his waves were top secret information, and they had never been leaked outside. Unless they came here and checked the match rate, it would be hard even to guess what it was.
“Fine. I’ll leave what comes after to the Crown Prince, so you take responsibility and make that Guide stay in this country. Do you understand?”
“I’ll do my best.”
“Tsk!”
As if he were angry, the Emperor turned away, and after the Empress carefully watched him, she walked toward them. Kasselard’s arm loosened, so Ephinia also peeked her head out.
“The formal ceremony will have to be held later, but… don’t forget to have her name entered into the imperial genealogy, and leave a marriage record at the temple as well.”
“Your Majesty the Empress, my deepest apologies for holding the ceremony like this.”
When Ephinia apologized, Yekaterina let out a small laugh. She didn’t think this wedding was Ephinia’s stubbornness. It hadn’t even been a month since what happened at the ball.
She took Ephinia and Kasselard’s hands and spoke gently.
“Congratulations on your marriage, Ephinia, Crown Prince. His Majesty will calm down sooner or later, so don’t worry.”
Kasselard didn’t care in the slightest, but he had enough sense not to say that here.
“Thank you, Your Majesty the Empress.”
Yekaterina grinned and said,
“That arrogant brat’s expression will be something to see. He reminds me of his father, so every time I look at him, my anger rises.”
Huh?
Before Ephinia could ask with a bewildered face who the ‘arrogant brat’ was, Yekaterina smoothed her expression as if she had never smiled.
“Then I’ll see you later.”
The Empress left with a face that had hidden its laughter, and Ephinia let out a breath she had been holding. His Majesty the Emperor had been angry, but Her Majesty the Empress had an attitude as if she were satisfied.
“Were you nervous?”
“A little.”
“Yeah. I thought so. Your nervous face is so cute.”
As he pulled her into a hug and whispered, Ghileste went, “Ahem!” and cleared his throat. Kasselard pretended not to notice and kept kissing Ephinia’s cheek, and maybe he choked while clearing his throat, because it turned into a hacking sound.
“High Priest.”
“I sincerely congratulate you both on your marriage. It seems your business is finished, so I’ll take my leave now.”
“I’ll remember this favor. I’ll see you at the next imperial event.”
With an expression somewhat softened, Ghileste bowed to Ephinia and the Crown Prince and withdrew. Kasselard gestured and summoned an attendant. It was time for the Nabel Empire delegation, who would be seething by now, to be welcomed in.
