Chapter 18
We weren’t just talking about any academy; it had to be the continent’s best, Luxus Academy. To afford the huge tuition fees, the Duke and Duchess’s support was essential.
Luxus Academy was known even among Sweet Everyday users as a school harder to get into than the real-life college entrance exams.
To be accepted, students needed to score S grades in every subject: literature, arts, martial arts, and general knowledge. Even after countless efforts, gaining admission was still difficult, and the entrance fees were astronomical. Spending a mere 10,000 or 20,000 won in microtransactions wouldn’t even come close.
Two clueless possessor spirits like us would never even make it through the academy’s doors without the Duke and Duchess’s backing.
Games and reality, there is but one thing that is true in both worlds: money is king. It’s about using money to cover up your lack of skills. If that’s not possible, it’s because you don’t have enough money.
I planned to use the immense wealth of the Duke’s family to smooth the way for Ian’s entry into the academy.
After a long silence, Josefina finally spoke.
“Let’s talk about the academy later.”
I almost dropped the handkerchief I was holding. I hurriedly called out to Josefina.
“Wait, you’re still going to delay it even though Ian wants to go so badly?”
“You know Ian’s condition isn’t the same as before. We can decide when everything is back to normal. It’s not too late.”
If he doesn’t get into the academy, your son will live the rest of his life in this state! Josefina, who had no idea of this, looked unusually strict in her expression.
“But—”
“Lillian, I understand your feelings, but our decision remains the same.”
Damn it. This was bad. I thought they’d sell everything, even their own son, if he wanted it.
No, they’d probably even sell the country without much difficulty. The problem was that they were too afraid to let go of their son after he came back to life with a warped mind.
At this point, there was only one way. I had to make Ian pretend to be completely fine.
Fortunately, Ian hadn’t started randomly smashing things or throwing people around like when he first woke up.
“AAAH! Young Master!”
Before I could finish my thought, an immense crashing sound and a scream echoed. I clutched my throbbing head and bit my bottom lip.
The faces of Duke and Duchess Zenor turned pale with worry.
“What happened to our Ian this time?”
I thought that instead of worrying about Ian, they should have been more concerned about the servants around him, but the Duke and Duchess seemed to see nothing but their son.
Soon enough, with a loud noise, the door to the reception room shook. One of the heavy door panels tilted and crashed to the floor inside with a loud thud.
Dust began to rise faintly around Ian, who was standing on top of the fallen door. The force he exuded, as if he could explode at any moment, overwhelmed the room, and a headache unlike any I had felt before surged in my head.
“…I told you to put on clothes.”
Ian, still dangling the monster between his legs, approached me with a fierce glint in his eyes.
He grabbed my arm and lifted me to my feet in one swift motion. His breath, quick and ragged, brushed my face as he spoke in a low voice.
“Agreeing to cooperate with you doesn’t mean it’s okay to insult me.”
“Who insulted you?”
“You dare try to make me wear a scrap of cloth like some foolish clown?”
I tilted my head slightly and glanced at the servant standing behind Ian. In his hand was a torn garment, as if it had been scratched to pieces by a bear’s claws. The luxurious frills on the sleeves, the dangling amber buttons, the pristine white fabric, and the gilded patterns, despite the torn state, it was obvious the clothes were expensive.
“Clowns like that don’t wear such expensive clothes.”
“It’s not about the price!”
He rushed at me, as if to grab my collar, but stopped abruptly. Perhaps due to his two experiences of vomiting blood, he seemed unable to bring himself to threaten me.
“Ugh, argh!”
His anger shifted elsewhere. He suddenly grabbed the Duke’s collar. The Duke, who had been instructing a servant to prepare a new set of clothes that Ian would like, was caught by surprise. Even as his throat was being squeezed, the Duke couldn’t bring himself to push his son away.
“I-Ian!”
Josefina, unable to stop Ian, stood helplessly beside him. The Duke, struggling for breath, waved his hand weakly, trying to assure that it was fine.
“Ugh, Ian, you’re too kind-hearted to be harsh on the powerless servants. You’re just throwing a tantrum like you always do with your father… Ugh!”
The way the Duke interpreted Ian’s unruly behavior as misplaced filial piety was almost awe-inspiring. If this goes on, that kid might not get into the academy, but end up getting enrolled in jail for his criminal behavior.
