Chapter 20
Those words swept through the room like a gust of wind. Seeing the surprised expressions on the Duke and Duchess, I smiled triumphantly in my heart.
After all, who am I? Whether it’s part-time jobs, university, exchange students, clubs, or any kind of camp, I’ve never been rejected in an interview. I’m someone who specializes in interviews.
Why, you ask? The answer is simple. Everyone can’t ignore a story with emotion behind it.
In just about 5 minutes, I had seamlessly built a perfect narrative arc and left a decisive impression with one final strike. This is my specialty.
And once again, that method worked perfectly. The dramatic scene I’ve just created is the proof.
Think about it. Why is the cavalry of Rohan from The L*rd of the R*ngs still talked about by people today?
In that moment of despair, reinforcements arrived like a heavenly salvation. The thrilling charge. People instinctively remember and love such dramatic developments. How many were moved by their miraculous appearance?
And here, I recreated that effect. Right at this moment, in this room.
A subtle change occurred in the Duke and Duchess. First, surprise, then emotion, and finally, a soft joy filled their eyes. It seemed they sensed something overflowing in my decision.
The clear tears gathering in Josefina’s eyes reflected her heart exactly. Overcome with emotion, she looked at my face, unable to speak for a moment. Helith was the same.
“Are you sure?”
Josefina asked in a trembling voice. Her tone was thin, but it felt more like gratitude than suspicion. I nodded gently, smiling without avoiding her gaze.
“Yes. We’re friends, after all.”
At those words, Josefina finally burst into tears, grabbing my hand tightly. The trembling I felt in her fingers conveyed the depth of her emotions perfectly.
In that moment, I understood. To the Duke and Duchess, I was their Rohan cavalry. The only savior in their despair, the one they could trust and rely on the most. I had certainly made a lasting impression on them.
“Lillian, thank you so much. I know how big of a decision you’ve made. We’ll do everything we can. If you need anything, just let us know.”
Their sincere gazes were fixed on me. The Duke and Duchess seemed ready to do anything for their son’s future.
Now, the real conversation began. I hesitated slightly, then spoke.
“To be honest, both Ian and I are a bit lacking when it comes to keeping up with the academy’s curriculum. So, we would really appreciate just a little bit of help to make sure we can enter smoothly.”
At my words, Josefina blinked in surprise, and Helith nodded, listening intently. Fortunately, they weren’t dull enough to miss the underlying meaning in my request.
“Don’t worry. All the professors at Luxus Academy know the Zenors, so they’ll surely be considerate of you.”
Helith said calmly. I wished the answer had been a little more specific, but I smiled as if nothing was wrong.
“Thank you. However, I still think it’s best to go with some basic knowledge in place. Could you help us arrange some tutoring?”
“You’re right. No matter how much this is for Ian’s benefit, sending him without preparation would only make things harder for you. I’ll recruit the best educators on the continent, those who can adequately fill in the gaps with the necessary subjects and skills.”
I couldn’t think of a better answer from him. I lowered my head with a relieved smile.
“Thank you so much. Thanks to you, I think we’ll be able to prepare even harder.”
Having successfully secured the Duke and Duchess’s help, I turned my head to look at Ian, who was still slumped on one side. He had his hand pressed to his chest as if in pain. I reached for his hair but quickly changed direction and grabbed his hand instead.
“Ian, get up now. We need to go.”
With a little force, Ian struggled to his feet, his face stiff from the memory of his bruised n****e.
“I’ll make sure this humiliation is repaid…”
He muttered lowly, but I smiled as if I didn’t hear him.
“Well, we’ll take our leave now.”
I bowed respectfully, offering my final words, and the Duke and Duchess, still wearing expressions full of gratitude and relief, saw us off.
The moment we left the reception room, I inwardly smiled a small victory. Everything was going according to plan.
