My real helper wasn’t Ian Zenor. It was Ares Balthazar.

Which meant this bastard was a possessor, too.

A helper is usually supposed to be someone who guides you with information you don’t have, giving you aid, right? What the hell did the system expect us to do together, a man from the past and me from another dimension?

All this information was coming at me in a torrent, each revelation more ridiculous than the last, until I could do nothing but let out a hollow laugh.

Just then, I heard a noise from behind me.

“Oh my goodness!”

A short, shocked scream.

I turned my head in the direction of the sound. At some point, the door had swung wide open, and beyond it, people were crowding in like a swarm of bees.

“Ian?!”

A refined voice, trembling with disbelief. The owner of that voice was a middle-aged woman wearing a black veil.

She took one step forward, and then she froze completely. With a gloved hand covering her mouth, she slowly shook her head as if she couldn’t believe what she was seeing.

A system window popped up beside her.

Josefina Zenor

Ian’s mother. And next to her…

“What have you done to my son, Lilian?”

Helith Zenor

Ian’s father.

He stood there, dressed in a crisp black uniform, staring at Ian with a look of horror. His voice was strict and commanding, but it couldn’t hide the simmering rage underneath.

Meanwhile, I was still pinned under Ian’s heavy body, flailing my hands as I tried to squirm out from beneath him.

“Um, so, the thing is…”

“At least give me an answer!”

I’m trying to talk here…

But neither of them seemed even remotely interested in hearing me out. Their shocked gazes were locked entirely on Ian.

“Calm down, dear. Lilian must be just as heartbroken. She must have come because she wanted to see our Ian. Don’t take out our grief on Lilian like it’s her fault.”

Josefina took out a handkerchief and dabbed at her tears, drawing in a shaky breath. Heilith, his eyes still blazing with anger, hesitated for a moment before finally nodding.

“…You’re right.”

He stepped forward and gently embraced Josefina.

Oh, wonderful. The two of them clung to each other and wept. I couldn’t help but frown at this sudden soap opera unfolding before me.

Dressed in black and clinging to each other in tears, they looked exactly like a couple in mourning.

And more than anything, the way they looked at Ian sent a chill down my spine.

…Do they think Ian is dead?

It was hard to believe, but their voices and expressions were filled with such genuine sorrow that it didn’t feel right to dismiss it as a joke.

Could it be… Ian is already dead in this world?

It was an unbelievable thought, but it was the only explanation that made sense of what was happening.

“To think a giant hornet would find its way into Ian’s room…”

Josefina’s sobbing words reached my ears again.

A giant hornet…?

I repeated her words in my mind, feeling absurd.

“He was so shocked… the poor boy had a heart attack…”

Her voice broke, and she swallowed her words in a choked sob.

Ha. What a way to go. Death by giant hornet.

At last, the whole situation clicked into place in my mind.

Ian had died of a heart attack from the shock of seeing a giant hornet, and Ares Balthazar’s soul had possessed his empty body.

It was utterly ridiculous, but there was nothing I could do but accept the reality in front of me. It wasn’t even the most outlandish thing, considering I had also come from another dimension and possessed someone else’s body.

Okay, so now I understood how things were playing out. So…

“Sorry for interrupting your crying, but could you maybe help me out here?”

Save me first, you bastards!

I was still pinned beneath Ian, no, Ares’s,solid body.

“Ugh, please! Your son’s going to kill me!”

The crushing weight made it almost impossible to breathe. On top of that, my right leg was pinned under his solid thigh, and the blood flow had been completely cut off.

“At this rate, my leg’s going to rot off!”

But my cries were lost to the air.
