Chapter 9
“…Ian.”
Thanks to the help around me, I was rescued just before being crushed to death. But no one paid any attention to my foot, which had turned purple. Everyone was focused only on Ian with desperate eyes.
He had been moved to the bed, lying there quietly asleep, his body covered in blood.
The duke and duchess sat by his side, dabbing at their tears and watching his face as if in prayer.
“Warm. He’s warm.”
Helith reached out carefully to Ian. When his thick fingers brushed Ian’s cheek, his face twisted as if he might cry.
“Ian, is it just a dream that you’re breathing? Please, my son, open your eyes and say something—anything at all.”
Helith’s voice was full of desperate pleading, his hand never leaving his son’s face.
Did that father’s heartfelt prayer finally reach Ian like a miracle? At last, Ian’s eyelids twitched. His long, delicate lashes shifted slowly.
As Helith’s face came into view in Ian’s glassy, clear eyes, the room seemed to fall into complete stillness, like time had stopped.
A short, breathless gasp of surprise and relief escaped someone’s lips.
“Ian!”
Josefina swallowed her sobs as she called his name, and Helith’s hand gently stroked his face over and over. The air in the room was heavy with hope, as if blessed by something holy.
Everyone, except me, was completely transfixed, eyes fixed on Ian’s lips.
“Take your hand off me, you decrepit old donkey.”
The cold tone made Helith tilt his head in confusion.
“Son?”
He stared at his son with an expression of disbelief, but Ian didn’t answer. Instead, he slapped his father’s hand away without hesitation and pulled back.
There was no sign of doubt or hesitation in Ian’s movements.
His eyes, fully locked in an offensive stance, swept across the room with a sharp intensity. His gaze, keen and savage like a wolf, was calculating how many enemies there were to bring down.
The corners of his blood-smeared lips twisted slightly. Ian wiped the blood from his mouth with the back of his hand and spoke in a low, cold voice.
“You’ve all come at once. Fine. Come at me together.”
His icy, threatening tone froze the air around him.
“What are you all just standing there for? Get a doctor, now!”
Helith’s shout filled the mansion.
As the servants scurried in a panic, Ian’s eyes flashed.
“Where do you think you’re going?”
He snapped and lunged forward. Moving faster than anyone could react, he leapt into the air and brought his heel down hard on the top of Teddy’s head.
Crack—! The sickening sound of bone breaking reverberated through the room.
“Ah!”
Teddy’s body convulsed and collapsed to the floor as Ian landed lightly behind him. A cloud of white dust rose as Teddy’s heavy frame hit the ground.
In the middle of the chaos, the naked madman turned his piercing gaze to his next target.
“Ah, no! My lord!”
His cold, calculating blue eyes scanned the room, not sparing anyone.
If his eyes met with anyone else’s, he attacked without hesitation. The heavy thuds of impact rang out in every corner.
Anyone caught by his fists or feet bounced like a ball and hit the floor with a wail. His movements were precise and disciplined, leaving the entire room in a state of chaos in moments.
The servants, trying to flee from this living disaster, collided with one another, and the duke and duchess stood frozen in place.
