Chapter 25
It was as if Claude had already seen right through my shallow intentions when he interrogated me so viciously.
But I couldn’t possibly tell him, “Since you never come around, I thought I’d try dating Jack instead.” I had my pride, after all, and more than that, I didn’t want to provoke an already furious young master any further.
So, I tried to play innocent and feign ignorance. In retrospect, that was probably the worst move of my life.
“I… I’m not sure what you mean. It’s not like I was actually going to do anything…”
I mumbled, avoiding his gaze, and he lost his temper again.
His fierce energy made my shoulders shrink in on themselves.
“You were trying to mess around with that good-for-nothing mutt. Weren’t you? Can you really say you weren’t?”
“It’s not that, I just… I was only going to talk for a bit… We already know each other, and…”
My clumsy excuse, thrown together under his harsh glare, only made things worse. That day, I learned what it truly meant for a person’s eyes to ‘turn over’.
“Oh, just for a bit of talking.”
He let out a derisive snort, his voice dropping so low it was almost chilling.
“After just a little talk, then what? How much deeper were you planning to get to know each other, meeting in a place like that?”
He must have been hiding somewhere nearby and listening to my conversation with Jack almost from the very beginning. Realizing that didn’t help me at all.
“Uh, that’s…”
I should have just looked at Jack the way I usually did—as if he were trash—and walked right by. But now it was far too late to admit that I’d tried to use him just to make the young master jealous.
Even for my meager pride, that would have been far too petty. Besides, judging by the look in his eyes, if I tried to make him jealous more than once or twice, neither Jack’s life nor mine would be safe.
“Get to know each other better, hold hands, maybe even kiss if you get bored. Why not go as far as sleeping together, hmm?”
Claude whispered those words as he tightly gripped both my hands, leaving me unable to move. Naturally, his lips followed, pressing down on me with my hands restrained.
Receiving a kiss in such a powerless state, my hands trapped, was both stimulating and overwhelming. It felt like punishment.
His tongue invaded, blocking off my breath. The stinging sensation of him sucking on the root of my tongue made my head go foggy and my knees buckle. Was this what it would feel like to be eaten alive by a beast?
“Mm, nngh…”
The kiss was far rougher than usual, leaving me gasping for air. I could feel Claude clench his teeth as he looked down at me struggling to breathe.
Almost as if he was desperately holding back his anger.
The moment I realized that, a mix of defiance and resentment welled up in me.
“Why…”
I should have stopped there. I should have done whatever it took to keep all my pent-up grievances from spilling out at the wrong moment.
Of course, I didn’t manage that.
“Why? Am I not allowed to?”
I even went so far as to talk back, as if I had two lives to spare.
“You’re not planning on ever going all the way with me anyway, are you? I’m an adult now, you know. I have my own curiosities too!”
Maybe, on some instinctive level, I already knew.
That there was a line I could never cross, and that he had no intention of ever crossing it either. And that the only way to drag him over that line was…
“Hah…”
…to piss him off, royally.
“Curiosity, huh… F**k…”
And with that, I succeeded in pushing Claude right over the edge.
He swept a large hand across his face, then asked in a much calmer, yet still chilling voice,
“Who said that? Who said I have no intention of doing it with you?”
“Well, you, Young Master… you said…”
…that you wouldn’t kiss me anymore, and told me not to come to your room at night…
Completely unaware of what an ominous sign that was, I grumbled my complaints at his softened tone.
“So, you really think it means I have no intention of being with you?”
