Chapter 12
Cecilia held her hips and let out a soft groan as she leaned against the wall. It was a good thing the party hall was empty in the morning.
She had been shocked ever since she got off the bed, her legs trembling. A single night of intimacy had given her muscle aches all over her body, as if she had been beaten.
Cecilia looked down at her body with resentful eyes. Her arms, exposed outside of the dress that looked like bright bouquet wrapping, were as thin as a stem.
‘A single hit would probably knock me out.’
Since she was a noble lady, she wouldn’t have to get into a brawl like in her previous life. But a body like this wouldn’t be much help in preventing a tragedy.
‘This is so annoying.’
But thinking of her previous life, she could thankfully endure this much annoyance.
Cecilia took a slow step. Her lower body ached with every step, but she endured it. Oddly, even her perception of pain was more sensitive than before.
A waiting staff member opened the party hall door for her. The bright morning sunlight poured in, making her frown slightly.
“My Lady!”
Margaret, who had been anxiously waiting for Cecilia, quickly ran over.
“Oh, My Lady! Are you alright? Your skin is so…….”
Margaret’s hand touched the area near Cecilia’s neck. Her face was crestfallen.
It was understandable. Her lady hadn’t been seen for a whole night, and now she showed up with her clothes disheveled and her skin all bruised.
“You’re really alright, aren’t you? There’s nothing I can do to help, is there?”
“Margaret.”
She knew what Margaret was worried about. If she were an ordinary person, she would be grateful for her concern.
But for Cecilia, it was a bit annoying. It was just too awkward for her to console Margaret, who was making a fuss over nothing.
Cecilia gently pushed Margaret’s hand away.
“I’m fine. What about the task I gave you?”
“……I’ve built some relationships with the other staff. I’ve also figured out the schedules of each family.”
Margaret clearly didn’t believe she was fine, but her answer was earnest.
Building rapport with other families’ staff was a task she had given her on their way to the party yesterday.
Cecilia’s weakness was information. She had to figure out the subtle relationships between people and how their businesses were run. Since such detailed information wasn’t in the original story, she had no choice but to gather it herself.
“Ah, there’s a carriage. I’ll get it for you!”
Seeing the hired carriage stop in front of the party hall, Margaret ran toward it.
They didn’t use their family’s carriage when coming and going from the party hall. There was an unspoken rule that women, in particular, had to be discreet.
‘It’s funny that they’d still risk such a disadvantage just to come and play around…….’
Everyone probably had their own reasons. Just like herself, who had come here.
In any case, it wasn’t something Cecilia needed to worry about.
However.
“My Lady! This is your carriage!”
It was slightly annoying that the coachman, who had been haggling with Margaret, kept glancing at her face.
The coachman, who wore his hat pulled low, had a long scar on his chin. The gaze she briefly met was excessively sharp.
‘That looks exactly like…….’
Was it because she had a nightmare about her previous life?
She had a strange intuition that she had just encountered someone from the same line of work.
“Cecil!”
Rogerick’s call broke her reverie. His face, which had quickly come down the stairs in front of the building, brightened when he saw Cecilia.
“I came back after checking with the staff. They said that the liquor I drank yesterday… had that medicine in it.”
His voice got quieter as if he was embarrassed.
What Rogerick had checked was whether he had taken birth control. It was because of the question Cecilia had thrown at him this morning.
“Rogerick, do you know how to practice birth control?”
“…All the alcohol provided at this party hall has birth control in it. But just in case, I’ll check with the staff about the liquor I drank yesterday.”
Cecilia almost laughed when she saw how serious Rogerick’s expression became at her casual remark.
At a party meant only for debauchery and pleasure, a chaotic one-night stand was not uncommon. If a child were to be conceived as a result, the party hall itself could be shut down depending on the social status of the people involved.
Because of this, all the drinks provided at the party hall were mixed with birth control. Cecilia already knew this from Margaret, but she checked one more time just to be safe.
“Is that the carriage?”
