Chapter 13
Cecilia nodded, and Rogerick approached the coachman and handed him a gold coin.
“Escort the lady safely to her destination.”
“Oh, of course! Yes! I understand!”
That was all. Rogerick said nothing more, even after seeing the coachman’s face. Since the Holy Knight in charge of public order was so nonchalant, Cecilia let go of her faint thread of suspicion.
The bulky coachman bowed. Cecilia took Rogerick’s hand and got into the carriage.
“Cecil… if you don’t mind, may I visit Violet House?”
“Of course. Absolutely.”
Rogerick’s tense face brightened. He bit his lip to suppress a smile and closed the carriage door.
“I’ll be waiting for your invitation.”
Cecilia gave a short nod and smiled. Giddy-up! The carriage began to move with the coachman’s voice. As soon as Rogerick was out of sight, the smile on Cecilia’s face vanished.
“Ha….”
“…My Lady, are you alright?”
“I’m fine.”
A belated exhaustion washed over her.
She acted like she wasn’t, but she must have been a little tense. Cecilia leaned her head against the wall of the shaking carriage.
‘He really looks so much like him.’
Rogerick’s last look, so similar to Ryang’s, lingered in her mind.
It wasn’t so much his appearance as his demeanor and attitude that were similar. His uniquely upright kindness and considerate actions.
How could he have become such a person, even after being picked up and raised in that underworld as a child? In fact, she had always wondered about Ryang.
But seeing Rogerick, the mystery seemed to be a little clearer.
‘Since such a boy could come out of that filthy temple, Ryang must have been a mutant too.’
That’s when it happened.
Thump!
“Eeek!”
The carriage moved roughly. A screaming Margaret hurriedly checked on Cecilia.
“My Lady, are you alright? My Lady?”
Cecilia didn’t answer and instead kept her eyes fixed on the window.
“Margaret, are we going the right way to Violet House?”
“Huh? Just, just a moment…….”
Margaret’s face, which had been carefully looking out the window, gradually hardened. Her expression was deathly pale.
“N-no…….”
Cecilia let out a sigh.
“Ha.”
In the end, her worries had become a reality.
She had wondered why the road had become so rough. The carriage was running through a remote forest that could in no way be a path to a noble’s mansion.
You shouldn’t judge people by their appearance alone, but the marks of a special life are left on their exterior.
It wasn’t about their features. It was their gaze, their habitual behavior, and a certain indescribable aura that made it easy to distinguish them.
‘Still, I didn’t expect to meet trash like this so early on….’
How long had it been since she woke up in this body, and she was already meeting kidnappers?
“O-oh, My Lady… what do we do…?”
A terrified Margaret was almost sobbing.
Erdel was a territory famous for its good public order. This was because it was an area directly managed by the church. Thanks to this, it also had the side effect of young nobles roaming around without a care, engaging in deviance.
‘It’s already happened. Calm down.’
A composed Cecilia looked out the window.
“If I were to fall from here, I would definitely break a bone.”
“What? Of course, you would!”
“You don’t happen to have any self-defense weapons, do you?”
“Of course not!”
“What about the coachman? Did that man have a knife or anything like that?”
“I’m not sure…….”
There was no way to call for help. The best course of action was to overpower the coachman and escape alive.
So, what could she use as a weapon? After thinking for a moment, Cecilia suddenly undid her hair.
“Ah, My Lady?”
Her silver hair cascaded down like a waterfall. Cecilia held the comb-shaped hair pin that had been pinned on her left side. Cecilia pressed on the sharp metal tip.
It was hard and sharp enough to likely pierce human skin if she applied enough force.
“Margaret, can you re-pin this for me so it’s easy to take out?”
“Why would you…?”
“Hurry up.”
“Ah, okay!”
Margaret’s hands trembled as she pinned her hair. As soon as she finished arranging her hair and pinning the comb, the carriage stopped. Both of their gazes went to the door at the same time.
The door was flung open.
“Alright, we’re here. Both of you get out now, huh?”
His tone was completely different from before—it was terribly vulgar.
The two women carefully got out of the carriage. Cecilia first looked around. The other side of the deserted road was a forest, and on the other side was a lone, crudely made shack.
There was no one guarding the house, but judging by the traces of a campfire in front, it was clearly a place where someone stood guard.
“Violet House isn’t such a shoddy place.”
“Of course it’s not.”
The coachman looked back at Cecilia and smiled calmly.
“Too bad, My Lady will never get to go to that house.”
