Chapter 2
A faint gunshot was heard from downstairs. The two of them met eyes. Before anyone could say a word, their bodies moved first.
“Gun.”
“Here.”
As Juyeon, who had quickly put on her pants, held out her hand, Cheong-ryang handed her a gun. It was her usual Italian-made pistol.
As soon as they opened the door, they heard a commotion from downstairs along with intermittent gunshots.
Juyeon gave Ryang a quick glance and went downstairs.
“Be careful.”
“You too, Boss.”
It had been 20 years since she had been involved in this dreadful underworld. A midnight gunshot was not very surprising. It had already been 10 years since she took over this organization, but there were still idiots who were not sober enough to go after Juyeon’s position.
Today would surely be another trivial incident like that.
That’s what she thought.
“There she is! Chase her!”
Maybe not in the first few years after she became boss, but lately, the hierarchy had been sorted out.
Now, only insignificant minions with slow access to information and who were late to the game dared to attack. They were guys who heard the fragmented fact that a young woman took over an organization and came to sacrifice their lives.
But today, the situation was completely different.
“You…?”
The defensive system was penetrated with no resistance. The number of subordinates who came to help Juyeon was too small.
On the other hand, there were a surprising number of attackers. Moreover, their faces looked familiar.
They were all men she had put under Cheong-ryang’s command.
‘Did these bastards dare to betray Cheong-ryang as well?’
If so, Cheong-ryang was in danger. The child Juyeon had painstakingly raised had never killed a person.
“…Cheong-ryang!”
Juyeon frantically searched for him. But no matter where she looked, she couldn’t see the handsome young man with light-colored hair.
‘Damn it…!’
It was at that moment.
Bang!
It was as if the world went silent.
It wasn’t the first time she had been shot, but this time felt new.
The bullet wasn’t in her arm, leg, or even her belly—it was lodged right in her left chest.
“Ah….”
Blood gushed from her mouth. The same from her chest.
What came before the pain was a sense of relief.
‘Finally.’
This is the end. This dirty, wicked life.
She fell onto the cold floor, but she didn’t feel bad. The pain, which was enough to make her mind hazy, kept stabbing her chest, but it was okay.
Just one thing.
‘Ryang… not that child….’
Cheong-ryang was a boy Juyeon had saved and raised since he was a child. He was the only good in Juyeon’s dirty world of darkness and filth.
She didn’t know he would become her last lingering regret at the end of this nauseating life.
If she had known this would happen, she would have sent him out of this pit long ago.
She held onto him out of her own selfishness, and now….
‘Huh?’
A familiar pair of shoes was approaching in her blurring vision.
She couldn’t not recognize them. They were the luxury shoes she had bought for Ryang for his coming-of-age celebration.
“Ry-Ryang….”
You’re alive, thank goodness.
But what should she do, he would surely cry now. He was a weak-hearted child and might throw a fit, telling her not to die.
Juyeon smiled faintly. Her body was suddenly lifted. Ryang’s face finally came into her view.
His face was covered in blood as he held her, but he was not scratched. However, his eyes were incredibly strange.
His eyes were cold and dry. He wasn’t crying or surprised. It was as if he had known this would happen to Juyeon.
“Boss.”
She heard a familiar voice from another subordinate.
Juyeon tried to move her blurry vision, but it was no use. All she could still see was Ryang’s calm face looking back at her.
“We have dealt with all the men from the former boss’s side.”
“Good, you did well.”
“Congratulations on becoming the new Boss, Cheong-ryang-nim.”
“…Yeah.”
Ryang let out a small laugh.
Juyeon simply couldn’t believe what she had heard.
“You…….”
She moved her lips with her last bit of strength.
“It was you?”
The one who killed me?
“Yes.”
Ryang smiled radiantly. With the same face that always looked like he loved Juyeon so much.
“Because it’s my turn now.”
That was her last memory.
And where Juyeon opened her eyes was a completely different scene.
