Cecilia breathed slowly. She straightened her shoulders as much as possible and met his gaze.

“You’re lying.”

“It’s true? Oh, of course, Lord Rogerick doesn’t know about it.”

“Why wouldn’t Rogerick know about something like that?”

“Because I hid it.”

Then why would you, a Grand Duke, hide the fact that a single kidnapper was murdered?

‘Is it because you’re also involved? Or are you suspicious of me?’

The latter was a low probability. There was no evidence to pinpoint one person, let alone a noble lady, for killing a large kidnapper.

Rogerick was the only one who saw Cecilia get into the carriage. As long as he didn’t testify, she wouldn’t be caught.

“You get it now, don’t you? Who has the upper hand.”

“…In what?”

“Between Lord Rogerick and me.”

Ha, is that it?

For a moment, she almost let out a hollow laugh. Cecilia quickly looked down.

It seemed that the only reason he brought this up was to boast about himself, like a man full of hot air.

‘Yeah, that makes sense.’

There’s no way she would suddenly become a suspect. Of course, why he hid the murder case was still a mystery.

‘There’s a high probability he has a connection to that side.’

If so, it wouldn’t be bad to let down her guard, get close to the foolish Grand Duke, and get as much information out of him as she could.

Since it was clear that David was interested in her for some reason, it didn’t seem like it would be too difficult.

“I’ll give you one as a gift. And I’ll even teach you how to shoot it myself.”

“…….”

“With just a gun, a lady can make a big man like me powerless. Don’t you want a wonderful weapon like this?”

The carriage swayed again.

Their knees kept touching. Every time the carriage swayed, they not only touched but rubbed against each other. Every time that happened, Cecilia felt a strange sensation, as if something inside her was twitching.

Everything David said only made Cecilia feel unpleasant. It was even more so because the way he spoke reminded her of her dead boss’s son.

The way he thought he could win people over by giving them gifts, and the arrogant tone unique to a pampered young master, made her feel as if she was getting nauseous.

But then again, when their bodies touched like this.

“…Not really.”

A strange feeling tickled inside her. It was suspiciously so.

She had to admit that he was a surprisingly well-sculpted handsome man. But to be affected in this way was a little ridiculous.

‘What on earth is this body…….’

Perhaps the original Cecilia Cissil was, in fact, an incredibly passionate woman. And maybe a corrupted soul had entered her body and was now going crazy with desire.

“Hmm, that’s strange.”

At the low, simmering voice, Cecilia’s gaze involuntarily lifted.

She held her breath for a moment as their blue eyes met as if he had been waiting for it. His gaze was like a hunter’s. He licked his upper lip with his tongue and raised his eyebrows.

“With this, there’s no way you wouldn’t be tempted?”

For a moment, it felt as if he wasn’t talking about the gun, but about himself. The man’s seemingly trivial words pressed upon Cecilia’s heart like a seal.

The slowing carriage came to a stop. Before she could say anything, the door burst open. It was Rogerick with a grim expression.

The afternoon sun that poured in from behind him permeated the ominous carriage.

“Let’s get out. We’ve arrived.”

***

“The bullets and guns aren’t stored at the shooting range. If someone steals them, things get complicated. It’s a hassle, isn’t it?”

There was nothing on the wide plain. After walking for what felt like a while, a target stand and a large table appeared in the middle of the empty field. A few men were standing around it.

“But I did make sure to set up the practice range properly.”

As if asking for her opinion, David turned to Cecilia and gave her a faint smile.

‘What do I think? It looks like a gun museum.’

He’d probably use outdated relics like the long rifle he was holding. The performance was sure to be much worse than what she used to use.

A weapon is always better than nothing. She had some interest from that perspective, but she couldn’t get as excited as the people who followed the Grand Duke around.

“Your Grace, the Grand Duke.”

“Oh, you’re already here?”

Besides the respectful men who were clearly in the Grand Duke’s service, two well-groomed men who were furtively watching for a chance to intervene bowed their heads in greeting. Judging by their attire, they seemed to be nobles.

“Then I should introduce them, too.”

The Grand Duke vaguely gestured for them to come over.

“This is Count Vermonte and Viscount Lenard, who are in the gun business with me. And this is Lady Cecilia Cissil of the Cissil Viscounty, and this man is Lord Rogerick Montieux.”
