Chapter 32

“Unfortunately, I only brought rifles today. There are slight differences between the models, but nothing so great as to warrant a special explanation.”
“What about the weight?”
“They’re all similar. They’d be too heavy for Lady Cecilia to hold.”
David showed her the test rifles he had brought in his carriage. There were a few differences in their finer aspects, or some that had a different kind of wood covering the exterior.
Cecilia stroked the one on the top. It was one with a luxurious pattern engraved on the wood.
“Wasn’t it fun to shoot?”
His voice was playful, as if he was inviting her to a game.
David, who had twisted his waist to meet her eye level, was looking at her.
“Don’t you want to come again?”
“No.”
“……Why?”
This time, even David seemed a little flustered. Cecilia took her hand off the gun and turned around. David hurriedly followed her.
“I don’t know why you keep calling me to the shooting range.”
“What do you think it means when a man brags about his business?”
“Are you courting me?”
“Does it look like I’m not?”
“Are you aware that I brought a partner today?”
“Hmm, but you said you two aren’t anything, right?”
“Did I ever say that for sure?”
“Even if you are.”
Is that a problem?
His face and attitude seemed to say just that, and it was breathtaking. Cecilia, who had been staring blankly at him, let out a hollow laugh and turned around again.
‘…Is he just spouting all sorts of nonsense to get me to let my guard down?’
She had come to find out about a man who was the most likely enemy of all. But the more she got to know him, the more he seemed strange. She was frustrated because she couldn’t figure out his intentions.
“You said you would give me a gun as a gift if I came today. When will you give me that?”
“I’ll give you that gun the next time we meet.”
“That’s a different promise. How cheap.”
“Even if I’m cheap, there’s nothing I can do. The person who is desperate has no choice but to play the bad role.”
“Ha?”
“Instead, let’s meet at my villa next time, not the shooting range.”
“Why not call me to the shooting range?”
“So that I can get rid of the annoying people and see you alone.”
At his suddenly formal tone, Cecilia unconsciously stopped in her tracks.
David stood a step away. He smiled gently.
The wind blew.
Cecilia’s loose strands of hair fluttered wildly. David reached out and blocked the direction of the wind for her.
“Then, shall we go now?”
A carriage for her had already been waiting. David smiled sweetly and held out his hand to escort her.

The return carriage was with Rogerick.
Rogerick was unusually quiet. In the atmosphere different from usual, even Cecilia was quietly watching him.
‘What is it, why is he like that?’
It was easy to deceive and kill people, but this kind of human relationship was always difficult.
Since almost all the people around her in her previous life were structured only within a superior-subordinate relationship, there wasn’t much to care about besides obeying or giving orders.
But Rogerick Montieux was not a person to be treated that way. This man was as sensitive as he was delicate. Her intuition told her so.
“Cecilia.”
“Yeah?”
“How was it?”
“How was what?”
The question he uttered after a long silence was completely incomprehensible.
“The shooting?”
“No, I’m talking about His Grace the Grand Duke Raphaeli.”
“Why are you suddenly asking about the Grand Duke?”
“I heard a rumor that he was handsome. Does he seem like it now that you’ve seen him in person?”
“Well…….”
Cecilia, who was about to say it was obvious, stopped talking.
The moment her mouth opened, Rogerick’s gaze, which had only been looking out the window, turned back to her. Cecilia could sense this kind of atmosphere.
‘He’s jealous.’
Now that she knew his inner thoughts, she felt like a laugh was about to leak out.
She had wondered why he didn’t say anything when he saw her in David’s arms. He must have known about the strange atmosphere.
Only then did Cecilia feel at ease. The direction of her words also changed. Now, Rogerick even felt cute.
“What do you think, Rogerick?”
“Tell me what you think, Cecil.”
“He is handsome. He’s famous for a reason.”
Cecilia smiled sweetly.
“But that’s not all there is to the rumors about him, is it?”
“…….”
“I think I know what ‘having a unique personality’ means now too.”
Cecilia tapped his shoe with the tip of hers.
“You didn’t actually think I’d be interested in that cocky guy, did you?”
“……It’s entirely possible.”
“Rogerick.”
The back of Rogerick’s neck, which was avoiding her gaze, was red. Cecilia let out a hollow laugh and gently took his hand. Only then did Rogerick’s gaze return.
“That man has exactly the kind of personality I hate.”
“…….”
“A guy who has been raised precious since birth, who has nothing to be afraid of, and who has never failed to get what he wants. So he’s a useless man who is rude and arrogant to everyone.”
Cecilia frowned and smiled.
“He’s truly the worst, isn’t he?”
