Chapter 47
“…Move aside.”
“Hmm.”
“If you’re planning to threaten me by using my weakness against me….”
“Ha, what are you talking about?”
David let out a breathy laugh near her ear.
“Do you think I’d throw away the chance by merely touching you a few times, when I’ve been looking forward to the prize I put on the line so much?”
Cecilia blinked.
She was so confused she wondered if she had heard him correctly. Why on earth was this man so obsessed with a debutante’s first dance?
“However.”
His voice, deliberately dragging out the end of the word, stabbed into her ear.
“Couldn’t Lady Cecilia simply push me away and walk out? I’m perfectly willing to move away.”
Cecilia froze. Her face flushed red.
His words were certainly true. She just needed to push him off. Even when he pulled her in close, he hadn’t used any overwhelming physical force.
But the memory of that day, which helplessly surfaced the moment his body felt close behind her, gripped something within Cecilia.
David’s hand tracing her neck, his eyes staring at her that morning, his face sniffing her scent, his aroused gaze.
The desire that winced in response was a bonus.
‘Crazy b***h!’
It was at the moment Cecilia tore herself away from him as if running away.
“Oh my, how romantic!”
Suddenly, a high-pitched voice was heard.
A group of nobles had been watching Cecilia and David since who knows when. One of the women clapped her hands and gasped.
“It’s like a scene from a play! I never knew shooting could be so romantic!”
Ten or so nobles had clearly witnessed the two of them. Moreover, they were all watching with eyes shining as if the sight was intriguing.
The atmosphere was broken by the brown-haired woman, who had been heavily admiring them and now abruptly stepped forward.
“But can even a Lady shoot a gun?”
“Of course, would you like to try?”
“Yes, I would!”
The brown-haired woman excitedly scurried closer. A few other noblewomen, who were watching their reaction, cautiously followed.
Naturally, the noblemen became spectators. They seemed to think it would look bad if they joined the ladies.
“It’s too heavy! Could a knight help me, like His Grace the Grand Duke did?”
“You hold it like this? I’ll hurt my hand! Then how should I…….”
Cecilia stepped back and observed the young women dithering.
Bang, bang, bang!
“Agh!”
The blonde lady who pulled the trigger first shrieked. It seemed she was startled by the flash of fire that burst right in front of her eyes.
One person, frightened in advance, even gave up halfway. But two did not.
Bang, bang-bang!
“Wow, this is fun!”
One person was enjoying herself without hitting anything.
“Heavens, I think I have a little talent, don’t I?”
One person was hitting the target with a noticeable talent.
‘She has good nerves and good sense. What about her physique?’
The talented one was the lively brown-haired young woman who rushed out first. It was a shame she couldn’t see her physique accurately because she wore a thick coat over her dress.
But she definitely looked sturdier than Cecilia. Even though she was short, she seemed like the solid, compact type. With a little practice, she would acquire quite threatening skills.
‘She’s a girl I’d want to take on as a subordinate…….’
Cecilia paused at the thought that popped up unconsciously. Then she let out a hollow laugh.
Subordinate, what nonsense, she didn’t need things like that anymore. Of course, she would never take a noble young woman on as an assassin.
“My, the lucky winner this time is indeed a Lady, isn’t she?”
At the random noise, Cecilia turned around.
A few noblemen were grinning right behind Cecilia. She wondered who was speaking to her in such a challenging tone, and a familiar face was at the head of the group.
“Ah, Viscount Lenard.”
“Long time no see, Lady. Did you enjoy the wine you took last time?”
“Of course. Thanks to you, I had a fragrant time.”
“Wine? What is this story, Viscount Lenard? Do you have a deep connection with this beautiful Lady?”
“Haha, what a terrible thing to say. No, no.”
Viscount Lenard stroked his mustache and smiled at the question from another intrigued noble. His gesture of waving his hand, pretending to be a good person, was quite fake.
“It’s simply that the Lady who has seized a new fortune is the beautiful daughter of the Viscount Cissil family.”
His expression while looking at Cecilia was somewhat meaningful.
“Ah.”
“I see…….”
A long sigh of realization flowed simultaneously from the noblemen’s mouths. Their gazes scanned Cecilia. She felt like she was on a judging stand.
Cecilia’s expression naturally hardened.
“Ah ha, a young Lady who grew up quietly in a viscount family wouldn’t know much.”
Smiling smoothly, Viscount Lenard bowed slightly and lowered his voice.
“It means that the Lady has captured the heart of Grand Duke Raphaeli, who is famous for never running out of women.”
“…….”
“In fact, I noticed it the first time I saw it. Grand Duke Raphaeli has never brought any woman to the shooting range. How does it feel, suddenly becoming the heroine of a romance?”
“…….”
“If it were me… I would be so happy.”
Cecilia stared quietly at Viscount Lenard.
Until his facial muscles, which had been holding a smooth smile, could no longer bear it and slowly lost strength. Then she asked.
“Are you envious?”
