Chapter 127
“That’s not it. I simply acted on instinct when I sensed a threat approaching Your Highness.”
Well, it’s fortunate that it wasn’t intentional…….
“I apologize. If I had judged more rationally, I wouldn’t have caused Your Highness such concern.”
I really don’t understand what he’s apologizing for. He took a stab wound meant for me.
If anything, I should be the one feeling guilty for using his injury to sway public opinion.
“If it wasn’t intentional, then that’s fine. Don’t apologize. I’m the one who should feel sorry and grateful to you right now.”
“But—”
“Thank you for protecting me.”
I quickly added before Isaac could apologize again.
Isaac looked slightly flustered. Most unlike himself, he fidgeted with his lips before finally speaking.
“……I merely did what needed to be done.”
Ding!
[<Sysyem> Affection with ‘Isaac Harsen’ has slightly increased.]
I blinked at the sudden message window.
‘That’s unusual.’
While it was good news since raising Isaac’s affection wasn’t easy, it made him even harder to understand.
‘Surely he doesn’t enjoy getting hurt in my place……?’
I’d like to believe he doesn’t have such strange preferences, but I can’t help but wonder since nothing else comes to mind.
Given Isaac’s injury and the fact that we’d handed the man over to the palace, we decided to return to the palace.
‘Since we don’t have much stock left, it should be fine to leave the remaining supplies to the healers.’
After explaining about ergot to the palace healers, I handed Reno the uniform jacket I’d brought from the palace.
“Here. You didn’t take it with you this morning.”
“I was just about to ask about that. Thank you for bringing it.”
Reno, while putting on the jacket, glanced at Isaac. Looking at the vivid bloodstain on the pierced area, he playfully asked.
“Want to wear it?”
“You know yours would be a bit small for me.”
“If we force it, it might fit. Wouldn’t that be better than wearing one soaked in blood?”
“If both are improper, I’d rather wear my own.”
It was a firm rejection. Though Reno responded with “That’s too bad.” his grinning face showed he wasn’t disappointed at all.
‘Though they don’t look that different in size, I guess there must be quite a difference.’
I looked back and forth between Isaac and Reno. They both far exceeded the height of average adult men and had broad shoulders, so I assumed their measurements would be similar, but apparently not.
That’s when we were heading back to the palace.
Ding!
[<System> All supplies have been distributed.]
[<Linked Quest> Revolution That Changes the World. Complete (1/1)]
[<System> Quest has been completed. You can receive rewards through Evgenia’s summons later.]
[<System> Reputation has exceeded a certain threshold. Reputation system is now unlocked.]
Message windows popped up one after another. As expected, since there wasn’t much left, everything seems to have been distributed after the distribution site reopened.
‘But what’s this reputation system? What’s that about?’
Just as I was about to check the window, wondering about this unfamiliar system.
Ding!
[<System> All conditions for Hidden Quest ‘???’ have been met.]
[<Hidden Quest> ‘???’ Conditions
―Achieve your first merit for the kingdom: Prune (Completed)
―Achieve your second merit for the kingdom: Coquo (Complete)
―Achieve a certain level of affection with ‘Ielo Ma of Anesis’: Close (Completed)]
[<System> Hidden Quest ‘???’ information is still unknown. It will be revealed through a future meeting with Evgenia.]
Even though I’ve met all the conditions, it won’t be revealed right away…….
I couldn’t hide my disappointment after checking the message window. I’d been curious about the hidden quest’s content all this time.
‘So I have to wait until Evgenia calls for me.’
Though she’d likely summon me soon given that we’d distributed all the iron supplements and today’s incident, it was frustrating not knowing right now.
When we returned to the palace, a royal knight informed us that they had detained the man in the royal prison and reported to Evgenia.
While it seemed appropriate given that he had stabbed Isaac and might do so again, he was also a patient who needed treatment.
I asked them to send a palace healer to examine the man.
After adding a caution about potential danger, the knight acknowledged and left.
