Chapter 155
‘Come to think of it, I still have the bracelet.’
The feeling of finding a solution was brief. I realized this wasn’t the time to feel relieved.
The first reason was that I didn’t know how to use it, and the second reason…….
‘Since it can only protect me once, wouldn’t it be wasteful to use it here?’
Just as my clothes were becoming disheveled and unfamiliar touches brushed against bare skin, someone knocked on the door.
“Your Highness, Duke Yelpen. May I come in?”
It was Isaac.
“Isa– mmph……!”
Somehow that voice felt like salvation, and I desperately tried to open my mouth, but this only allowed his breath to push in even more forcefully.
Clunk.
There was a sound of someone trying to open the door from outside, but it seemed to catch as if locked.
‘It’s locked? But I didn’t lock it when I came in…….’
Does that mean Isaac can’t get in? This was a little…… no, extremely concerning. What should I do? Isn’t there anything I can do with magic?
With my lips continuously devoured, I could barely breathe, let alone think clearly. While I was just struggling, unable to think properly, there was a sound of something crashing down.
Bang!
Following the startlingly loud noise, a dark shadow fell over me. The moment I recognized Isaac’s fierce expression, the weight covering my body disappeared.
In the blink of an eye, Isaac had slammed Killis to the floor.
The body that wouldn’t budge when I tried to push it away had been removed so easily…….
Leaving Killis groaning in pain behind him, Isaac turned to me and asked.
“Are you alright, Your Highness?”
“Yes. I’m fi–hah, fine.”
Getting up from the sofa, I hurriedly tried to fix my clothes. But my trembling hands couldn’t fasten them properly.
After watching me fumble several times, Isaac silently took off his uniform jacket and draped it over me.
“Ah…… thank you.”
As I clutched just the front of the jacket, I could see his jaw tighten. With an excessively expressionless face, he stood up and gripped the handle of the sword at his waist.
Shing, the chilling sound of metal made my neck tingle, as a cold silver blade emerged.
“How dare you.”
Isaac pressed his sword against Killis’s throat without hesitation. Though it seemed he had merely placed it there, a thin line of blood trickled down Killis’s neck.
He must have actually been cut. Just how sharp was the blade to cut simply by touching?
“For the crime of attempting to defile Your Highness, I shall execute immediate judgment.”
“Wait!”
I quickly grabbed Isaac’s arm. His jacket that had been draped over my shoulders fell to the floor, but I had no time to worry about that.
“It’s okay, Isaac. I’m fine, so…….”
“Your hands are shaking.”
“Ah……?”
At Isaac’s observation, I looked down at my hands. The hands gripping his arm were trembling uncontrollably despite my will.
Was this really such a shocking event? I knew through the message window why Killis had suddenly acted this way.
Huu, after exhaling deeply, I gripped his arm more tightly with my still-trembling hands.
“I’m really okay. And Killis…… it probably wasn’t his own will. If you look at his eyes, they’re clearly strange-“
Huh?
I stopped mid-sentence while pointing at Killis. The eyes that just moments ago had cat-like pupils mixed with silver had returned to normal.
‘Why?’
It’s a relief that he seems to have returned to normal. Yes, it’s a relief, but if it happens so suddenly, what does that make me…….
Ding!
[<System> Due to forceful interruption, the character’s state returns to normal.]
[<System> Affection with ‘Killis Yelpen’ has greatly decreased.]
The message window appeared belatedly, as if mocking me. It could have told me earlier. Though even if it had, I wouldn’t have had any excuse.
“He’s normal now, but earlier he was really strange. So you shouldn’t be too…….”
“You don’t need to defend me.”
Killis cut off my words and knelt directly in front of me. Isaac’s blade, still aimed at his throat, followed threateningly, though slowly.
“I am grateful for Your Highness’s kind consideration, but Lord Isaac is right. I will accept my punishment.”
Then he suddenly grabbed Isaac’s blade with his bare hand and guided it to where his heart would be.
