Chapter 169
“Your Highness is too kind. Even now, instead of pushing me away, you keep making room for me.”
Is that so? But it’s not unpleasant enough to push away, and it would be troublesome for me if things become awkward by pushing him away needlessly. This seems far from kindness.
“That’s why someone like me gets confused. Not knowing my place, daring to.”
“Why do you keep talking about yourself that way? What’s wrong with you?”
“You’re doing it again now.”
No, I really just feel sad when he puts himself down like this.
Just as I was about to speak—
Bang!
A red light and loud noise echoed through the sky. The sound was so loud that I momentarily thought I might go deaf, and I found myself instinctively pressing closer to Reno.
Even so, curious about the source of the sound, I carefully looked up at the sky visible over his shoulder and saw smoke dissipating. Then several long streaks of light shot up into the sky and burst with consecutive bangs.
“Fireworks.”
“Yeah…….”
Colorful fireworks were bursting in the sky. I found myself absently staring up at the sparks that beautifully embroidered the pitch-black sky before fading away.
It was only disappointing that the branches and leaves spreading in all directions partially blocked the view.
“How about moving to the branch over there? There are fewer leaves on that side, so we should be able to see better.”
“I’m a bit scared…….”
“Don’t worry. I’ll hold you securely so you won’t fall.”
Well, if that’s the case.
When I nodded slightly, Reno stood up on the tree. Then, while holding onto a branch extending to the opposite side, he reached out his hand to me. I carefully stood up and grasped his hand.
Maybe because I couldn’t see below clearly? It was less frightening than I’d expected.
Following Reno’s lead, we gradually moved until we reached the other branch. As he’d said, there were fewer leaves here, giving us a better view of the sky.
Bang! Bang! Boom!
Watching the endless bursts of fireworks filling the sky, I felt dazed by their splendor.
To think I’d get to watch fireworks to my heart’s content here, something I rarely saw even in reality.
“Your Highness.”
“Yes?”
“Do you remember when you promised to grant me one wish?”
Wish?
After briefly collecting my thoughts, I let out a small “Ah.”
“You mean what you took as a prize from our bet?”
“So you still remember.”
“It was only a few months ago. Of course I remember.”
Though I’d forgotten about it until now, I recalled it when Reno mentioned it. He’d said he’d ask for it later.
“Would you like to use it now?”
“Yes.”
“Alright. What should I grant you?”
Bang! Boom! Bang!
“……please.”
Just as Reno spoke, an unprecedented number of fireworks exploded simultaneously. My ears were so overwhelmed that I couldn’t hear what he’d said.
I briefly furrowed my brows before asking.
“Sorry, I couldn’t hear. What did you say?”
“I asked for a kiss.”
It was something I never expected. My mind went completely blank, so much that I was slow to even utter a confused “Huh?”
Blinking blankly, I moved my lips like a fool.
“Why……?”
“What other reason could there be? Because I want to.”
“With me?”
“Yes.”
Unlike my dumbfounded state, Reno’s tone was firm. His gaze was so serious that none of his usual playfulness could be found. I couldn’t help but recognize that he was truly sincere.
“Don’t you like it?”
“Well…….”
I hesitated before answering. Who would have thought this was what Reno wanted? It was so unexpected that my eyelashes just trembled.
With Isaac, it was something that had to be done, and I knew Killis had desires for me from the start.
But Reno wanting to kiss me?
No matter how many times I repeated it in my mind, I couldn’t believe it. As I continued to hesitate, Reno gave another bitter smile.
“Please pretend you didn’t hear it. If Your Highness doesn’t want to, there’s nothing I can do.”
Reno started to rise as if to leave. Seeing this, I hurriedly grabbed his arm and spoke.
