Chapter 211
After a lengthy discussion, Killis threw the map toward the elves.
But the map didn’t reach the elves high in the trees, and instead traced a parabola before falling to the ground.
“Oh no.”
Killis sighed. The height was challenging for someone with normal strength, but it was still a bit puzzling.
“Couldn’t you use magic to throw it?”
“Yes, or I could have asked my spirit.”
“They told me not to use magic. They say they still can’t trust us.”
Fair enough.
While we might not have any harmful intentions, to them, we were objects of suspicion. They had to be wary of traps or sudden attacks.
The elves looked at the map that had fallen to the ground and seemed to be deliberating. While they talked among themselves, Meliana frowned.
“Why are they being so cautious? Duke Yelpen, tell them we’ll give them our map, and my guardian will throw it this time.”
“Understood.”
“Did you hear that? Cain, prepare yourself.”
“Yes, Your Highness.”
While Killis spoke to the elves again, a man with a demeanor oddly reminiscent of Isaac responded calmly.
As soon as Killis said throwing was permitted, the man called Cain threw the rolled-up map toward the tree where the elves were.
Unlike when Killis threw it, the map shot up in a straight vertical line, fast and precise. The elf’s strength and agility must be quite good too, as they caught the map in one swift motion.
“Well done.”
The man bowed at Meliana’s praise.
Except for the elf examining the map, the others still held their bowstrings taut, remaining vigilant toward us.
After a tense moment, the elf who had finished examining the map rolled it up again and nodded.
—I’ll go see the Guardian!
“What did they say?”
“They’re going to see the Guardian.”
“They’re not letting us in yet……?”
“It seems they need confirmation.”
At Killis’s words, Meliana’s face contorted. Though she grumbled a bit, she apparently lacked the courage to confront the elves directly and soon swallowed her sigh.
“Really…… how long do they plan to keep us standing here.”
“They’ll be back soon.”
I murmured, looking up at the empty branch. Until just a moment ago, the elf who had checked the map had been there.
He had disappeared remarkably quickly with the map. The remaining elves continued to watch us vigilantly, not lowering their guard.
“Your Highness, why don’t you sit and rest? We don’t know when they’ll return.”
“Reno is right. You should rest.”
Following Reno’s suggestion, Isaac also recommended. It seemed like a good idea, so I nodded, and Killis took out a blanket from his spatial storage and spread it on the ground.
Naturally, Meliana couldn’t help but make a snide remark at the sight.
“Are you using Duke Yelpen as a porter since you can’t use magic, sister?”
“I requested this willingly, Your Highness.”
“Well, aren’t you lucky.”
After her brief retort to Killis, Meliana also took out a blanket from her spatial storage and sat on the ground. I was a bit surprised by this.
‘That’s unexpected. I thought she wouldn’t sit on the ground.’
Given her appearance and her usually prickly temperament, I’d assumed she wouldn’t simply sit on the ground.
Seeing this unexpectedly down-to-earth behavior, I tilted my head.
“What?”
“I just didn’t know you had this side to you.”
“What side?”
“Just…… I thought you’d never sit on the ground.”
“It’s all thanks to you, sister.”
Meliana folded her arms and turned her head away.
‘I think she just took a jab at me.’
No, she definitely did. The implication was that if it weren’t for me, she wouldn’t be in this situation.
I could have picked up on her words and started a fight, but I didn’t feel like doing that right now.
With the elves still watching us, showing them a quarrel wouldn’t do us any good.
So we waited for the elf who had gone to meet the Guardian, and finally, the elf returned and shouted.
