I willingly handed the cup to Meliana. It didn’t really matter who went first, since they would presumably let us all in anyway.

After everyone had poured the World Tree’s essence over themselves, we were finally allowed to enter the building.

—Come in.

“I really can understand them.”

Meliana said with amazement. But our appreciation had to be brief, as we needed to go inside.

—The Guardian is on the second floor of the temple.

“Temple? So this building is a temple?”

—That’s right.

While the elf and Meliana were chatting, I glanced back. Apart from the one elf guiding us, the others weren’t following.

“But… aren’t the others coming with us?”

—The temple is not a place just anyone can enter. Stop asking questions now.

The elf spoke sternly.

Well, I had been asking quite a lot. Given the nature of this place, it was probably right to be quiet.

After admiring the unique interior of the temple as we ascended, we finally came face to face with an unfamiliar figure.

—May you resonate with the World Tree.

The elf bowed their head and recited what seemed to be a greeting.

—Guardian, these are the humans from Lublin I mentioned earlier.

The elf called Guardian looked down at us. Their deep, dark green eyes, like the leaves of an ancient tree, pierced through us.

This elf was clearly different from the ones we had seen before. Unlike the other elves who wore practical clothing, this one wore elaborate and cumbersome garments. The cape and fluttering fabric decorations were especially eye-catching.

Despite the ornate clothing, their face wasn’t overshadowed at all. In fact, it drew attention.

‘So this is a high elf. They really are different.’

While all elves were beautiful, the Guardian was truly overwhelming. It wasn’t just their appearance—there was an indescribable aura about them. I felt a sense of wonder similar to when I first saw the World Tree.

‘But…….’

They seemed to resemble someone, or maybe not?

—Welcome, humans of Rublin.

The Guardian spoke.

—My name is Laura. As the first branch of Arbor, I serve as the Guardian.

I recall reading somewhere that Arbor is another name for the World Tree. I didn’t know it was a term used by elves.

At least my diligent reading hadn’t been completely in vain. I could understand even these little details.

—I hear you’ve come to undertake the trial of Lublin. According to our treaty, we need to sincerely administer this trial. As it happens, I have a trial that’s perfect for you.

Contrary to our concerns before coming here, they seemed to be welcoming us. Yet for some reason, I couldn’t shake an ominous feeling.

—However, it wouldn’t be polite to immediately give you a trial when you’ve come all this way as guests. Rest today, and we’ll guide you tomorrow.

“Please give us the trial now. I want to finish this as soon as possible.”

It was Meliana.

—You, insolent one!

—Enough.

The elf standing nearby glared at Meliana fiercely, looking ready to lunge at her. But at the Guardian’s word, they flinched and quieted down.

—Brother, calm your excitement.

—Please forgive the rudeness.

The elf immediately asked the Guardian for forgiveness.

—It’s not difficult to give you the trial. In fact, this is an urgent matter for us as well. But shouldn’t we ask the other human too?

The Guardian looked in my direction.

—Human, do you share the same opinion?

“Yes. I also want to undertake the trial right away.”

Despite the fatigue from our journey, I agreed with Meliana. If we couldn’t bring Reno all the way here, it would be better to complete the trial quickly and leave.

—Very well. Then I’ll give you the trial immediately. However, there are things you should know. Even though you’re in a hurry, please take a moment to listen.

That’s fair.

Meliana seemed to think the same, as she didn’t object.

After that, the Guardian began to speak.
